    摘要: A non-contact vane-type fluid-displacement machine includes a stator housing having an annular interior surface defining an interior bore and a rotor supported in an eccentric position in the interior bore of the stator housing relative to the annular interior surface thereof to undergo rotation relative to the stator housing about a central rotational axis. The rotor has a plurality of slots radially defined therein relative to the rotational axis. The machine also has a plurality of vanes disposed in the radial slots of the rotor. The vane is mounted to the rotor to undergo reciprocable movement in a radial direction relative to the rotational axis of the rotor such that an outer tip portion of the vane is maintained in a non-contacting substantially sealed relationship with the annular interior surface of the stator housing. Improved features of the machine, which relate to rotor and vane positioning, include a pair of thin compliant lubricous discs employed at opposite ends of the rotor, trepanned formations on the rotor end surfaces balancing the pressure on the vanes carried in slots of the rotor, and the vanes on the rotors being self-forming self-dimensioning composite assemblies.

    摘要: A rotary compressor having a housing defining a chamber with a curved outer wall of substantially elliptical profile containing a rotor of cylindrical shape having a plurality of vanes profiled to fit the chamber and radially slidable in grooves in the rotor to define enclosed compartments between them. Each vane has a pair of axially extending stubshafts having rollers respectively mounted thereon. Roller tracks formed in the end walls of the chamber accommodate the rollers for guiding the vanes so that the outer edges of the vanes follow the outer wall of the chamber in closely spaced engagement. Inlet and outlet ports located in the curved outer wall of the chamber closely straddle a reference region. The rotor has its axis laterally offset from the chamber for engagement at the reference region for sealing between the ports, the rotor axis being offset toward the outlet port and being spaced along both the major and minor axes of the elliptical profile by sufficient amounts that each vane undergoes but a single in and out stroke during each revolution of the rotor notwithstanding the elliptical nature of the chamber. In the preferred construction the rollers ride in grooves having radially opposed walls formed in the respective end walls of the chamber, with the radially inward wall having substantially constant radial clearance with respect to the contained rollers thereby to determine the amount that each vane can move radially inward under starting conditions and in the face of "slugging".

    摘要: A rotary machine having a cavity in the form of a doubly truncated sphere having a rotor of hollow construction mounted therein, the cavity being symmetric about a vane axis which is canted with respect to the rotor axis. The rotor includes an integral Saturn-like ring extending symmetrically about its axis dividing the cavity into first and second sides each of annular wedge shape having thick and thin portions arranged in complementary fashion. The rotor has four radial slots aligned with the shaft axis to divide the rotor into 90 degree sectors, the slots being occupied by first and second blades with each blade defining a pair of vanes which separate the sides of the cavity into successive chambers which vary cyclically in volume as the shaft rotates. A relatively thin auxiliary shaft extends axially through the hollow of the rotor. An auxiliary centering ball is telescoped over the auxiliary shaft at the point of intersection of the axes. For engaging the ball the blades have at their centers respective C-shaped recesses facing mutually inwardly in overlapping relation, each recess being radially dimensioned to snugly embrace the ball in the longitudinal dimension thereby to keep the blades centered in positions of equalized radial clearance with respect to the wall of the cavity. In the preferred embodiment the recesses are so formed that the ball is held relatively captive in the plane of each blade so that each blade is positioned in the endwise direction by the companion blade.

A pump is provided for injecting air into the loop to increase the pressure therein thereby to increase the heat rate of the system. Preferably the pump is used for both injecting air into the loop and bleeding air from the loop under the control of a thermostat for maintenance of a set temperature; however, a simplified form of the invention employs constant bleed. In a more elaborate form of the invention pressure follow-up is incorporated in the control to avoid any tendency toward overshoot.

    摘要: A controlled-clearance sealing compressor device that provides precision rotor centering directly with respect to the stator housing, vane centering with respect to rotor (not the stator) and the dynamic balance design of the gliders required for practical single and dual vane devices. The devices uses roller bearings to control the radial position of the vane and control rods or pins are used to control axial positioning of the vane, its ‘centralization’ with respect to the rotor and the endplates. The positive displacement rotary vane compressors and vacuum pumps have friction reduction, efficiency enhancement and exceedingly long operating life as a result of the non-contact gas sealing of the process gas within the rotary vane compressors and vacuum pumps. In an embodiment the positive displacement compressing device is used in transportation vehicles.

    摘要: A modular, frame-mounted power unit for converting heat from a low-grade energy source to electric power. Heat from a source is supplied to the power unit in the form of hot fluid circulated through a heat exchanger associated with a boiler. Liquid refrigerant in the boiler is vaporized and passes through the stages of an organic Rankine cycle, the expansion stage being carried out in a rotary, positive displacement expander. The condensing stage is carried out in a condenser associated with a cold heat exchanger which is connected to a supply of cooling fluid through cooling lines. The output shaft of the expander is connected to drive an electric power generator and individual fluid feed pumps for returning liquid refrigerant from the condenser to the boiler and for circulating hot and cold fluids through the hot and cold heat exchangers, respectively. A cylindrical refrigerant boiler and cylindrical condenser pass through and are mounted to two vertical plates, on which are mounted the expander, power generator, fluid circulating pumps, and feed pumps.

    摘要: An air conditioning system for an enclosed space including a jointly driven compressor and expander of the positive displacement type each having an inlet port and an outlet port with a primary heat exchanger connected between the compressor outlet port and expander inlet port and a secondary heat exchanger connected between the expander outlet port and the compressor inlet port to complete a closed loop having a charge of air and with one of the heat exchangers being thermally coupled to the enclosed space. Ambient air is injected into the closed loop to raise the pressure in the secondary heat exchanger to substantially above the atmospheric level to increase the heat rate of the system. Alternatively air is bled from the loop to reduce the pressure in the secondary heat exchanger thereby to decrease the heat rate of the system. In one embodiment of the invention a blocking valve in the path of the air stream flowing through the secondary heat exchanger is momentarily closed to create a vacuum at the compressor inlet port and an injector valve at the compressor inlet port is coincidentally opened so that ambient air is injected by the process of aspiration. While the system may be manually controlled, it is one of the features of the invention that injection and bleeding are under the automatic and corrective control of a temperature pressure sensing device so that the heat rate of the system is varied automatically in accordance with the requirements of an enclosed space for automatic maintenance of a present condition. The system is usable in a refrigerating mode, making use of the absorption of heat in the secondary heat exchanger or in the heat pump mode utilizing the dissipation of heat in the primary heat exchanger, with automatic control of space temperature in both of the modes.

    摘要: An air conditioning system for an enclosed space, capable of operating as a heat pump in the winter and as a refrigerator in the summer, of the type employing a unitary compressor and expander having a common rotor with vanes defining enclosed compartments for positive compression and expansion of air. An indoor heat exchanger and outdoor heat exchanger are provided with one being connected between the outlet port of the compressor and the inlet port of the expander and the other being connected from the outlet port of the expander to the inlet port of the compressor thereby to complete a loop which is charged with air. Valves are interposed for effectively interchanging the connections of the heat exchangers so that the indoor heat exchanger is used for warming in winter and cooling in summer. The outdoor heat exchanger is in the form of a solar-directed panel having a heat absorption surface and air passages for convection cooling. Means are provided for exposing the heat absorption surface and closing the air passages in the winter and for shielding the absorption surface and opening the air passages in the summer. A cold storage device is provided to serve as a heat source and to freeze water during the winter and with the melting of the resulting ice augmenting cooling effect during the summer. A heat storage device is also used to store heat during a winter day for release during the winter night. The loop is pressurized with air, the pressure being correctively varied by thermostatic control to vary the heat rate, thereby to maintain a set temperature both winter and summer in the enclosed space. The air in the loop is preferably moistened and a regenerator is optionally provided to increase the capacity of the system under extreme temperature conditions.

    摘要: An air conditioning system for a living space capable of operating as a heat pump or refrigerator employing a unitary compressor and expander having a common rotor with vanes defining enclosed compartments for positive compression of air in the compressor and positive expansion of air in the expander. A regenerative heat exchanger having thermally coupled air passages is employed in the system together with a non-regenerative primary heat exchanger which is located in the warm space. Air from the cool space is heated in the first passage of the regenerative heat exchanger, and moisture is injected, following which the air passes into the compressor inlet port. From the compressor outlet port wet air flows at high temperature and pressure to the primary heat exchanger located in the warm space where some of its heat is given up. Next the air flows through the second passage in the regenerative heat exchanger where its temperature is further lowered prior to being fed to the expander inlet port. Air from the expander outlet port, at low temperature and at atmospheric pressure, is discharged into the cool space, the net result being to increase the temperature differential between the spaces. When the system is used in the heat pump mode, the primary heat exchanger is located in the living space for heating the same, with the compressor-expander, initial air inlet, and final air outlet being located in the outside environment. In the preferred form of the invention a separate primary heat exchanger is located in the outside environment and transfer valves are provided to substitute the outside heat exchanger and for switching the initial air inlet and final air outlet into the living space for use of the system in the refrigeration mode. In an alternate form of the invention an auxiliary non-regenerative heat exchanger may be interposed between the final air outlet and initial air inlet. When the system is employed in the heat pump mode, provision is made for use of a solar heat absorber between the regenerative heat exchanger and the inlet port of the compressor.
