摘要: A demultiplexer device is used in a wavelength-division multiplexed optical fiber communication line to achieve efficient dispersion compensation and loss compensation as well as a reduction of active devices such as optical amplifiers. The demultiplexer device has a series of couplers disposed in multi-stages from the input of the demultiplexer. Each coupler has two branches with one branch of each coupler connected to a separate optical filter and the other branches are series connected to a subsequent stage of the couplers through equalizing fibers, except for the final stage which has its second branch connected to an optical filter for the shortest wavelength transmitted. The equalizing fibers are thus serially connected between couplers and act to perform a cumulative dispersion compensation. The quantity of the equalizing fibers can thus be reduced as a whole, and as a result the attenuation amount also decreases, so that the number of optical amplifiers can be reduced.

摘要: In an optical transmission, system, a trunk cable having two pairs of optical fibers is provided between first and second trunk stations to use one of the two pairs of the optical fibers for communication between the first and second trunk stations and the other for communication with first and second branch stations. Two branching units of first and second, and third and forth, are respectively provided for the first and second branch stations, and connected to each of the associated first and second branch stations, by first and second or third and forth branching cables. The first branch station connects to the first branching unit via the first branching cable having two pairs of optical fibers, and connects to the second branching unit via the second branching cable having two pairs of optical fibers. One of the two pairs of the optical fibers of the first branching cable and one of the two pairs of the optical fibers of the second branching cable are normally used, and the others are reserved as spare fibers. Alternatively, the first branching cable is normally used, and the second branching cable is reserved as a spare cable.

摘要: To control a gain profile in an optical fiber line to become a desirable form, a C-OTDR measuring apparatus (36) outputs a probe pulse light having a wavelength λm for an optical fiber line (14). A power level on the input or output side of a variable gain equalizer (22) can be measured according to a C-OTDR waveform of a return light of the probe pulse light entered through a C-OTDR path (20c) and an optical fiber line (16). By sweeping the measurement wavelength λm, the gain file is measured. The equalizing characteristics of the variable gain equalizer (22) are remotely controlled so that the gain profile becomes a desirable form according to the measured result.
