    摘要: A power supply and circuitry system for powering HVPT devices includes a power supply circuit that selectively provides an operating power and a simmer power to multiple HVPT devices. The system also includes a trigger circuit for each respective HVPT device that selectively couples the power supply circuit to one HVPT device to provide the operating power thereto. The system also includes a simmer control circuit for selectively coupling the power supply circuit to the HVPT devices to provide the simmer power thereto, the simmer control circuit further including a simmer switch circuit for each HVPT device, wherein each simmer switch circuit comprises an input coupled to the power supply circuit to receive the simmer power therefrom and an output coupled to one HVPT device. The simmer control circuit also further includes a simmer drive circuit coupled to each simmer switch circuit for selectively enabling the simmer switch circuits.

    摘要: This invention provides a solution for operating a regenerative amplifier using a single electro-optical device, such as a Pockels cell. An efficient cavity geometry of a regenerative amplifier is provided for enabling pulse selection, coupling and releasing to an output by operating a single Pockels cell unit placed essentially in the middle of the optical cavity, between two polarizers, whereas a first polarizer is used for release of an amplified pulse and a second polarizer is used for injection of seed pulses and release of at least one of waste amplified pulses and seed pulses. One side of the cavity, with respect to the location of said Pockels cell, includes an empty space, whereas the other side is provided with a gain medium, which is pumped by a pump source. The regenerative amplifier of such optical design is both efficient and cost effective. The single electro-optical unit works both as the control unit for operating the regenerative amplifier and as an output pulse picker unit.

    摘要: This invention relates to the field of lasers and in particular to the pump sources used in lasers. Many existing lasers use linear flashlamps in order to create population inversion in the gain medium of the laser. Such pump sources suffer from a number of drawbacks particularly when pumping dye lasers including explosive damage, long optical pulse length and inappropriate spectral emission. This invention provides a pump source for a laser which exploits the surface discharge phenomenon. A dielectric material (1) which is in contract with a gas (9) has electrical energy discharged across its surface in order to provide an electromagnetic emission which is then used to pump the gain medium. By varying the dielectric material or the cover gas used (amongst other variables) the surface emission can be used to pump the laser gain medium.

    摘要: In an optical communication system with a fiber-optic amplifier which includes a wavelength-selective fiber-optic coupler for coupling pump light into the amplifying length of fiber, an additional optical signal, e.g., a service-channel signal, is transmitted from the location of the fiber-optic amplifier in one direction or the other by being used to modulate the pump light. Since the pump light is not completely absorbed in the amplifying length of fiber, a sufficient portion is transferred from the length of fiber into the optical waveguide of the optical communication system and passes down the optical waveguide to the end point of the communication system. There, it is coupled out and passed to an optical receiver from whose output the transmitted additional signal is recovered by demodulation. To prevent the modulation of the pump light from modulating the amplification brought about by the amplifying length of fiber, the additional signal is modulated onto a carrier wave of sufficiently high frequency, and the resulting signal is used to modulate the pump light.
