摘要: An optical disk can detect reliable address data without the need of checking the validity of synchronous detection of segment numbers. The optical disk has one or more tracks, and address data is arranged in a distributed manner on the tracks. A generating polynomial that generates an error detection code of a segment number included in the address data, which represents location information in the disk rotatory direction, is made different from a generating polynomial that generates an error detection code of a track number included in the address data, which represents location information in the disk radial direction.

摘要: While a control portion changes the laser power stepwise with a laser power control portion, the optical disk apparatus of the present invention compares a predetermined level with an output by a detector that detects the correlation between a pattern to be recorded on the optical disk and the reproduction signal of the recording pattern detects as the minimum recording power the recording power when the originally smaller of the predetermined level and that output by the detector becomes larger than the other, and sets the optimum recording power to a power obtained by multiplying the detected minimum recording power by a certain factor.

摘要: The present invention is to realize a proper inner zone layout in a quadruple-layer disk.A test area is provided in the inner zone (inner circumference side area) in each of recording layers. If two test areas closer to the outer circumference, of four test areas, are defined as a first pair and two test areas closer to the inner circumference are defined as a second pair, the test areas of the first pair and the test areas of the second pair are so disposed as to be prevented from overlapping with each other in the layer direction. Two test areas of the first pair have the same consumption direction of the test area, and are so disposed that the areas to be used next hardly overlap with each other in the layer direction. Two test areas of the second pair have the same consumption direction of the test area opposite to the consumption direction of the test area in the first pair, and are so disposed that the areas to be used next hardly overlap with each other in the layer direction.

摘要: An information recording medium according to the present invention includes a track on which a data sequence including a plurality of recording marks and a plurality of spaces provided between the plurality of recording marks is recordable; and a recording condition recording area in which a recording condition for recording the data sequence on the track is recordable. Where a recording mark which is included in the data sequence and is to be formed on the track based on the recording condition is a first recording mark, when a length of the first recording mark is longer than a prescribed length, the recording condition is classified using a combination of the length of the first recording mark and a length of a first space located adjacently previous or subsequent to the first recording mark, and when the length of the first recording mark is equal to or shorter than the prescribed length, the recording condition is classified using a combination of the length of the first recording mark, the length of the first space, and a length of a second space not located adjacent to the first space and located adjacent to the first recoding mark.

摘要: When information is recorded or reproduced on or from an optical information medium having three or more recording layers using blue light, interference by another layer light is reduced and, when information is reproduced from an optical information medium using red light, an S/N ratio is held excellently high.An optical head device includes a first laser light source (1) which emits blue light, a second laser light source (2) which emits red light, an objective lens (11) which focuses the blue light onto a recording layer of a first optical disc (12) or focuses the red light onto a recording layer of a second optical disc (13), a photodetector (9) which receives the blue light reflected by the recording layer of the first optical disc (12) or the red light reflected by the recording layer of the second optical disc (13) and outputs an electric signal in accordance with an amount of the received blue light or red light, and a wavelength selective light blocking region (7x) which blocks a predetermined range of the blue light including an optical axis thereof to prevent the predetermined range from reaching the photodetector (9), and transmits the red light.

摘要: A reproduction signal evaluation method according to the present invention relates to adjustment of an edge portion between a shortest mark and a shortest space in a data sequence including marks and spaces in combination that is recordable on an information recording medium. In a pattern including a shortest mark and a shortest space adjacent before or after the shortest mark, a shift amount of an edge of the shortest mark is obtained from a differential metric calculated regarding one of a first pattern in which a space adjacent to the shortest mark and not adjacent to the shortest space is longer than the shortest space; and a second pattern in which a mark adjacent to the shortest space and not adjacent to the shortest mark is longer than the shortest mark.
