The present invention provides an apparatus for white light observation and fluorescence diagnosis of skin diseases. More particularly, the present invention provides an apparatus for photodynamic diagnosis in which a plurality of excitation light emitting diodes (LEDs) is provided in an image pick-up head, the excitation LEDs being arranged to illuminate the entire examination region in the form of a mosaic by setting respective illumination light axes of the excitation LEDs to illuminate preassigned individual areas of the examination region, thus uniformly illuminating the examination region in a wide field of view with excitation light. In the apparatus for photodynamic diagnosis, the respective excitation LEDs are provided at the same or different angles based on the light axis of the object lens, and thereby it is possible that the beams of the light sources composed of the LEDs illuminate the field of view of the examination region uniformly, thus improving the uniformity of illumination. Moreover, the present invention provides an apparatus for photodynamic diagnosis in which warm white LEDs and cold white LEDs as white light sources are appropriately arranged so as to deliver natural colors and thereby to reproduce natural color images.

A system is provided for photodynamic diagnosis and therapy of skin diseases. In particular, a camera head is provided to irradiate a white light, a fluorescent excitation light and a therapeutic light for the photodynamic therapy from the inside of a case onto the skin region being in contact with a view hole. Additionally, a digital color TV camera collects the light from the skin region and outputs a generated image signal. In particular, an image processing and analysis system receives the image signals from the camera head to process, analyze and store the same, displays a color image by the white light, a fluorescent image by the excitation light and the therapeutic light for the photodynamic therapy, obtained by the digital color TV camera, and a synthesized image thereof, and controls the general operations of the camera and the light source system.

The present invention provides an apparatus and method for photodynamic diagnosis and therapy of skin diseases and a light source system thereof that can improve the efficiency of skin diagnosis by accurately analyzing skin conditions using fluorescence and white light simultaneously and further carry out fluorescent diagnosis and photodynamic therapy in the same skin region simultaneously. The apparatus for photodynamic diagnosis and therapy of skin diseases of the present invention includes: a camera head including a case having a view hole, provided in front thereof, to be in contact with a skin region, a white light source provided so as to irradiate a white light from the inside of the case through the view hole onto the skin region, a digital color TV camera provided in the rear of the case, the camera head being provided to irradiate the white light, a fluorescence excitation light and a therapeutic light for the photodynamic therapy from the inside of the case onto the skin region being in contact with the view hole, and the digital color TV camera collecting the light from the skin region and outputting a generated image signal; a light source system, connected to the case of the camera head through a light guide capable of light transmission, for providing the fluorescence excitation light, the therapeutic light for the photodynamic therapy and the white light to be irradiated onto the skin region to the camera head; and an image processing and analysis system for receiving the image signal from the camera head to process, analyze and store to same, for displaying a color image by the white light, a fluorescence image by the excitation light and the therapeutic light for the photodynamic therapy, obtained by the digital color TV camera, and a synthesized image thereof, and for controlling the general operations of the camera head and the light source system.

According to the composite light source apparatus, uniform optical power can be provided through a combination of a plurality of light sources, the optical power can be provided through selection of light of a wavelength range that a user wants, and light from the light sources can be utilized to the maximum with increased light intensity.

Disclosed herein is a light source device for fluorescence diagnosis and photodynamic therapy comprising: a plurality of light source means having a wavelength range different from each other and providing selected light; a light path coupling means coupling light emitted from the light source means to the incident direction of a light guide; a filtering means selectively transmitting the emitted light based on the wavelength; and a switching device that is directed to an opening/closing means, established at a long distance to be controlled by a remote control device and selecting the kinds of light sources of the light source means to change the modes of the light. Accordingly, the device simplifies the configuration by excluding elements causing errors in the process of fluorescence diagnosis in the diagnostic region. Moreover, the light source device for fluorescence diagnosis and photodynamic therapy couples the light emitted from a combined light source to provide a sufficient light strength in the visible light region, thus improving the illumination quality to increase the accuracy of the diagnosis and further improving the therapeutic efficiency.
