Abstract: Systems and methods provide reliable voice connections dual-connectivity environments, given limitations of available spectrum. A system includes a first wireless station and a second wireless station. The first wireless station provides a shared spectrum of a first frequency band, the shared spectrum including a first spectrum for a first cellular wireless standard and a second spectrum for a second cellular wireless standard. The second wireless station is at least partially within a coverage area of the first wireless station and provides a third spectrum for the second cellular wireless standard. The third spectrum is a millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum. The first wireless station broadcasts a parameter barring an end device in an idle mode from camping on the second spectrum. The first wireless station or the second wireless station triggers the end device to swap to the second spectrum when a paging request for a voice call is received.

Abstract: A device may receive, from an application function device (AF), a message intended for a destination user device, wherein the message conforms to a first format. The device may obtain, from a unified data management device (UDM), information indicating that the destination user device is capable of receiving messages that conform to a second format. The device may convert, based on the information indicating that the destination user device is capable of receiving messages that conform to the second format, the message from the first format to the second format. The device may send, after converting the message from the first format to the second format, the message to a short message service function device (SMSF) via a direct connection between the device and the SMSF, wherein the SMSF sends the message to the destination user device.

Abstract: A device receives a call invitation message with a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer for establishing a call between a calling party and a called party and obtains a set of network fallback rules associated with the called party. The device determines, based on the set of network fallback rules, whether to reject the call and avoid network fallback from a first wireless network to a second wireless network. The device sends, based on the determination, a call denial message without an SDP answer, to reject the call and avoid the network fallback.

Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for handling call requests, prior to the performance of a call setup procedure, based on attributes of a calling User Equipment (“UE”) and/or a called UE. A Messaging Application Server may receive a call request, from the calling UE and to the called UE, identify a category or event type associated with the call request, and notify the called UE of the call request, including the category or event type. Different categories or event types may be associated with different sets of eligible actions to perform. The method may further include conducting the first voice communication session over a 4G network, determining whether the first voice communication session has terminated and determining whether to reconnect to the 5G network, in response to determining that the first voice communication session has terminated.
