Abstract: Embossing methods and systems include a substrate (e.g., a sheet of paper or other material) delivered through a rendering device (e.g., a printer). An array of time-delayed pins can be driven into the substrate as the substrate travels through an in-line path provided by the rendering device to produce a latent embossed image composed of a combination of shapes depressed in the substrate. An ATA (Acoustic Transfer Assist) system can transfer an image to the substrate. The substrate with the latent embossed image is then transferred to the ATA system and the substrate is rendered with an embossed image based on the latent embossed image.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional object facilitates removal of the three-dimensional object from the platen on which the object was formed. The method includes rotating the platen from a horizontally level position to a position at an angle to the level position to enable gravity to urge the three-dimensional object away from the platen and inductively heating the platen to melt support material at the boundary of the object and the platen to release the three-dimensional object from the platen.

Abstract: Apparatuses include a conveyor moving in a processing direction, a print head positioned adjacent the conveyor, a light source positioned adjacent a first side of the conveyor, a movable mirror positioned adjacent a second side of the conveyor, that is across the conveyor from the first side of the conveyor, a fixed mirror positioned adjacent the first side of the conveyor (the fixed mirror is between the light source and the print head), and a light sensor position adjacent the second side of the conveyor. The light sensor is between the movable mirror and the print head. The light source outputs light to the movable mirror across the conveyor, the movable mirror directs the light back across the conveyor to the fixed mirror, and the fixed mirror directs the light again across the conveyor to the light sensor.

Abstract: A method of removing support material attached to an object printed with build material by a three-dimensional object printer achieves reliable removal of the support material in a short time. The method includes moving a first dry absorbent media into a volume within a vessel having at least one wall and moving the object into the volume of the vessel. The vessel is agitated to enable the first dry absorbent media to dislodge and absorb the support material from the object, and the first dry absorbent media is moved from the volume of the vessel.
