Systems and methods disclosed herein includes a measurement device to enable dimensional metrology and/or 3D reconstruction of an object. The measurement device is positioned between the object and reference luminaires (e.g., light emitting diodes or other light sources). The measurement device uses the reference luminaires to determine the position and orientation of the measurement device. The measurement device may include a camera oriented towards the reference luminaires and may acquire/use images of reference luminaires to determine the position and orientation of the measurement device. Using the reference luminaires, the system may determine positions and orientations of the measurement device when the images of the reference luminaires are taken. The system may be configured to use the positions and the orientations of the measurement device to determine dimensions and/or 3D models of the object.

Techniques are disclosed for detecting changes in occupancy as well as the number of occupants within an area. Detection of one or more occupants entering or leaving the area may be accomplished using a sensor having a quantity of pixels. The pixels may be configured to receive thermal energy emitted from one or more objects present in the area, including from one or more occupants. In response to receiving the emitted thermal energy, the sensor may be configured to create thermal images of the area. These thermal images may include a plurality of thermal intensity values associated with one or more pixels of the sensor. Two or more thermal images can be compared to identify a change in thermal intensity values. A change in the occupancy of the area may be determined by based on the identified change in thermal intensity values.

The luminaire also includes at least one driver configured to control the light sources to transmit light through the plurality of panels at varying light intensities to display a fiducial pattern and configured to detect errors in the display of the fiducial pattern.

The method may include obtaining, by the computing device, an image of a subset of luminaries from a plurality of luminaires located in an indoor environment, in which each subset grouping of luminaires in the plurality of luminaires is uniquely identifiable. The computing device may then compare the subset of luminaires to a database storing each uniquely identifiable subset grouping of luminaires in the plurality of luminaires, in which the database includes position information for each luminaire in the plurality of luminaires, and determine the position of the computing device based on the comparison of the subset of luminaries to the database.
