The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a pair of substrates, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the pair of substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy, at least one of the pair of substrates is provided with an alignment film for vertically aligning adjacent liquid crystal molecules, and a polymer layer formed on the alignment film for controlling the alignment of the adjacent liquid crystal molecules, the polymer layer is formed by polymerization of at least one monomer, the polymerization being initiated by radicals generated of the monomer upon absorption of light, the alignment film includes a polymer compound having a main chain that contains an imide structure, and the main chain has an imidization ratio of 50% or more.

    摘要: This liquid crystal display device (100) includes: a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer (3); a pixel electrode (11) and a counter electrode (21) arranged on first and second substrates (1, 2), respectively, to front on the liquid crystal layer; and first and second alignment films (12, 22). Each pixel region (10) includes first, second, third and fourth liquid crystal domains (A, B, C, D) in which liquid crystal molecules (3a) are tilted in first, second, third and fourth predetermined directions, respectively, which are defined so that an angle formed between any two of them is approximately equal to an integral multiple of 90 degrees. The first liquid crystal domain is located close to at least a part of edges of the pixel electrode, which includes a first edge portion (EG1) where an azimuthal direction (e1) perpendicular to the part and pointing toward the inside of the pixel electrode defines an angle greater than 90 degrees to the first direction.
