    摘要: A training device and methods of using the device are described to train athletes to reduce the incidence of certain types of injuries. The device and methods promote a reduction in knee vulgus and hip internal rotation during typical athletic movements such as jumping, landing, and lateral bounding. The device provides a guide element that serves as a reference line providing feedback to a user on their movements. A user may adjust their joint positions during the movements based upon self-monitoring or feedback from a trainer who observes the user executing movements while wearing the device. The guide element may provide feedback on knee positioning in two axes of movement.

    摘要: Silver(I) cyanoximates of AgL composition (L=NC—C(NO)—R, where R is electron withdrawing groups: —CN, —C(O)NR2, —C(O)R′ (alkyl), —C(O)OEt, 2-heteroaryl fragments such as 2-pyridyl, 2-benzimidazolyl, 2-benzoxazolyl, 2-benzthiazolyl) are synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic methods and X-ray analysis. The synthesized compounds also demonstrate remarkable insensitivity toward visible light and UV-radiation. The combined characteristics of these compounds, such as light insensitivity, poor water solubility, high thermal stability, lack of toxicity of organic ligands, and antimicrobial activity make these silver(I) cyanoximates compounds suitable for use in biomaterial and medical devices.

    摘要: Systems and methods are provided for detecting and quantitating one or more compounds or molecules in a sample. An aptamer-based point-of-care device (such as a strip) is described for rapid detection of target molecules such as the cancer marker p-glycoprotein (Pgp). Fluorescent molecules or gold nanoparticles may be used to detect the binding between a target molecule and the aptamer. By way of example, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) or Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) may be used for detecting the physical and/or chemical changes caused by the binding of the aptamers to the target molecules.

    摘要: A fuel product derived from waste products and processes for using and forming the products are provided. Broadly, the fuel product comprises a self-sustaining body formed from a homogenous mixture including solid components derived from livestock waste (e.g., swine manure) and a second waste product different from the livestock waste (e.g., sawdust or paper). The mixture has a moisture content of from about 10-40% by weight and the formed body has a bulk density of from about 20-40 lbs/ft.sup.3. The mixture or formed body is heated to a temperature of at least about 800.degree. F. in order to produce at least about 5000 BTUs of energy per pound of mixture or body heated.
