摘要: An encoder is provided for encoding fixed length binary words into (VWL) encoded serial data in which each non-zero word comprises a start bit and an end bit of one state and a number of intervening bits of a different state, the number of such bits representing the magnitude of the word. In a preferred embodiment the coder comprises a multiplexer, a PROM and a flip-flop. The PROM provides a feedback signal comprising three parts - a control signal, a binary word representing the magnitude of the input word, and an output signal having either of two states. The feedback signal is repeatedly applied to the PROM by the multiplexer. The PROM responds by reducing the magnitude part of the feedback signal by one. Each time the cycle repeats, another bit appears at the output of the coder as the output signal. Accordingly, the number of such output bits corresponds to the magnitude of the input word. Eventually, when the magnitude has been reduced to zero, the multiplexer selects a new word to apply to the PROM.

摘要: A transmission apparatus and a method for operating the apparatus comprises means for controlling flow of frame based data transmitted from a local frame based data channel interface over a synchronous digital network. The method of operation comprises the transmitter receiving frame based data at a first rate whereafter a buffer is configured to receive the frame based data. A data amount threshold level for the buffer is predetermined whereafter, with respect to the threshold level, an amount of transmitted frame based data that has been received is monitored. In response to monitoring the amount of data received, a signal, in the form of a pause frame, is generated wherein the signal is configurable to adapt the rate of transmission from the frame based data channel interface. Working in conjunction with the transmission means there is also provided a receiver for controlling flow of frame based data, received from a synchronous digital network, to a frame based data channel interface. The receiver is configured to receive the frame based data at a first rate whereafter a buffer is configured to receive the frame based data. Upon pre-determining a data amount threshold level for the buffer an amount of frame based data received is monitored with respect to the threshold level. In response to monitoring the amount of data received, a signal is generated in the form of a pause frame, wherein the pause frame signal is configurable to adapt the first transmission rate of the frame based data over the synchronous digital network to a second rate. In this way, the rate of transmission from a local Ethernet switch may be controlled and the rate of receipt of Ethernet based frame data from a synchronous digital network may be controlled. In the latter case pause frames may be incorporated into one or more synchronous digital hierarchy virtual containers.

摘要: A system and method for transmitting encrypted documents from a document server to a client computer across network allows a user to select and view fewer than all of the sections of the document so that not all of the encrypted document need be transmitted. An encryption module and encryption key generator allows the document server to generate encryption information for each encrypted section of the secure document and store that information in a key file on the client computer. A decryption module on the client computer accesses the key file to decrypt for viewing the selected document sections transmitted from the server.

摘要: An optical communications network configured in a shared protect capacity architecture. The network includes a plurality of shared and unshared nodes; a plurality of working lines connecting the plurality of nodes to form a ring that shares two or more nodes with another ring; a shared protect fiber optic line connecting the two shared nodes; and a plurality of protect lines connecting the plurality of unshared nodes which are connected by the plurality of working lines. By optically coupling a first Add-Drop Multiplexer of a first shared node to a first port of an optical cross connect using a first connecting path; optically coupling a second Add-Drop Multiplexer of the first shared node to a second port of the optical cross connect using a second connecting path; and optically coupling a third port of the Optical Cross Connect to a second shared node through a shared protect path, both rings may use the shared protect path to re-route traffic therethrough in the event that one of the rings has a break which severs the working and protect lines which couple two of the nodes thereof. The reduction in the quantity of protect lines, hence the fiber, and the equipment resulting in the associated cost savings are transparent to bit or baud rate, type of optical fiber, and signal format.

摘要: A radio access system comprises a base station and a plurality of subscriber locations. The subscriber locations each comprise a residential base unit or subscriber interface which includes line termination equipment. A group of subscribers is served by a pool of residential radio transceiver units in radio communication with the base station which is connected to the residential base units by a shared bus. A group of subscriber locations may be served by a lesser number of residential transceiver units, while at the same time providing individual locations with access to increased bandwidth for ISDN services and the like. Also described is a system in which a subscriber's base unit is connected to two or more residential transceiver units to allow increased bandwidth without requiring additional residential base units.

Once matrix stores performance values and statistics concerning the cell and optimizing conditions for handoff from the cell in response to the performance values. Another matrix stores status values and statistics concerning the cell and optimizing conditions for handoff in response to the status values. 摘要: A method is provided for graphically depicting detailed state and status information for network objects, particularly network objects forming part of a telecommunications network. A graphical representation of a network is displayed in which a basic icon is displayed for each network object. More commonly occurring state and status combinations are conveyed by imparting attributes to the basic icons such as dashed, solid, or three dimensional outlines. Less commonly occurring state and status combinations are conveyed by attaching modifier icons to the basic icons. The method is particularly suited to providing a detailed visual representation of the states and statuses included in the OSI standard.

摘要: A system and method that uses an advanced positioning system in combination with a cellular communication network to improve the performance of the network is disclosed. The system is capable of receiving an identification number for a mobile unit as well as a location code. In order to determine if the mobile unit is a fraudulent user of the cellular communication network, the system compares the location code with a previously received location code. Since there are natural physical constraints on how quickly a mobile unit can move from one location to another, the system can thereby determine if there are two mobile units using the same identification number. If so, then one is likely a fraudulent user. In addition, the system is capable of assisting the mobile unit by providing the location code to a third party. This is especially beneficial for emergency dispatcher services since, due to the very nature of mobile units, the user of the mobile unit may not know his precise location.

摘要: A cabinet for outdoor use for enclosing a rack of electronics equipment has a double skin protective outer casing comprising a lower air intake into a cavity between the skins of the double skin and an upper air output from the cavity to the outside, for unforced cooling air to flow, to extract heat from the equipment by convection. The inner of the skins is formed in part at least by a heat sink of the rack. This unites the thermal management of the rack and that of the enclosure to provide an improved thermal path from the cards in the rack to the cold wall. This means the temperature difference between the inner skin and the air in the cavity can be increased for a given card temperature, so more heat can be extracted. The heat sink may share the back wall of the rack with the motherboard.
