    摘要: A can forming machine includes a can body holder in which the can body does not fall at an unexpected time. A knockout unit has a knocking out piston which is disposed to be movable in a depth direction of a recess and is provided to be displaceable between a protruding position at which the knocking out piston protrudes into the recess and an recessed position at which the knocking out piston exits the recess, and a cylinder which supports the knocking out piston to be displaceable. At a discharge position, at which the formed can body is discharged from the recess of the can body holder, a piston displacing unit, which displaces the knocking out piston from the recessed position toward the protruding position, is provided adjacent to the other surface side of the base.

    摘要: An alignment assembly for a press assembly is provided. The alignment assembly includes a number of alignment elements. The alignment elements include a number of moving alignment elements. The moving alignment elements are coupled to an upper tooling assembly that moves between a first and second position. As the upper tooling assembly moves, the moving alignment elements move between a first position and a second position corresponding to the upper tooling assembly first position and a second position. The moving alignment elements are structured to move the shell from the initial alignment position to an intermediate alignment position. Thus, as the upper tooling assembly moves from the first position to the second position, the moving alignment elements contact a shell and move the shell from an initial alignment position to an intermediate alignment position.

    摘要: A can end blank is initially cupped and a central portion of the cup is rolled up with an annular portion of the cup being free formed with limited contact with any tooling except to prevent wrinkling, to prevent overextension of the free formed material and to define a final geometry of the free formed material as the forming press reaches a bottom of its forming stroke. The free forming is performed by controlling the motion of a pre-panel punch using a double action piston so that the pre-panel punch is selectively moved between an extended position for formation of a cup of a cupped can end blank and a retracted position for free forming material between a central portion of the cup and a clamped portion of the cupped can end blank.

    摘要: A double action press for forming a beverage can lid has a longitudinal axis, an inner tooling, and an outer tooling. The inner tooling is positioned about the longitudinal axis and has a downwardly extending stem. The stem has an upper segment having a free end and a separate lower segment having a proximal end. The proximal end is in communication with, but is not joined to, the lower free end of the upper segment. An opposing distal end is joined to a punch core. The outer tooling is positioned about the longitudinal axis and has a passageway through which a portion of the stem passes, a chamber in which the proximal end of the lower segment of the stem resides and traverses upwardly and downwardly therein, a biasing means within the chamber for biasing the lower segment of the stem in an upward position, and a circumferential tooling assembly.

    摘要: Can shells are produced with tooling installed on a mechanical press, and the tooling includes an upper retainer supporting a blank and draw die enclosing an outer pressure sleeve and an inner pressure sleeve surrounding a die center punch, all having pistons. An air chamber is connected by air spring passages to the inner pressure sleeve piston, and the outer pressure sleeve receives the same air as the air chamber or lower pressure air. The die center punch has an insert which initiates the drawing of a cup, and the inner pressure sleeve and die center punch have contoured surfaces which mate with opposing surfaces on a die core ring to form and clamp the chuckwall of the shell during downstroke of the press. A panel punch has peripheral surfaces which form the panel wall and countersink of the shell during upstroke of the press.
