Abstract:
Systems and method relating to machining parts include a CNC system including CNC machining tools, and a computer including a processor and a computer-readable medium, wherein the computer-readable medium encodes instructions of a single NC program that, when run on the processor, causes the computer to control a selected CNC machining tool to perform operations including alternating between (i) moving the selected CNC machining tool along a semi-finishing toolpath segment using a first set of spindle speed and feed rate values to remove a next portion of rough stock material in a next region of a part being manufactured, and (ii) moving the selected CNC machining tool along a finishing toolpath segment to remove a semi-finishing thickness portion of the part in the next region, wherein the first set of spindle speed and feed rate values are different from the second set of spindle speed and feed rate values.
Abstract:
In an end mill, a peripheral cutting edge portion has a peripheral cutting edge formed in a spiral shape around an axis, a peripheral rake face formed on the front side of the peripheral cutting edge in the rotating direction and bordering thereon and a peripheral flank formed on the rear side of the peripheral cutting edge in the rotating direction and bordering thereon. The peripheral flank has a first peripheral flank formed in a position on the mill body tip side to have a first clearance angle and a second peripheral flank formed in a position on the mill body end side of the first peripheral flank and neighboring the first peripheral flank to have a second clearance angle. An average width value of the first peripheral flank in the rotating direction is greater than an average width value of the second peripheral flank in the rotating direction.
Abstract:
A blade of an impeller has a blade surface made up of line elements. The line elements forming the blade surface are not parallel to each other. A relationship between a twist angle of the line elements and a distance between the origin and an intersection of a central line of the impeller and an extension line of a Z-axis projection line obtained by projecting each of the line elements onto a Z-axis projection plane is represented by a curve.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a machine tool and a corresponding method for machining, in particular for turning and milling, a workpiece having a central bore, said machine tool including a tool holder for holding a tool, a work rest for seating the workpiece, a work mounting for holding the workpiece in place, and a drive mechanism for rotating the workpiece about a central rotation axis, wherein the work rest has an arbor for attaching the workpiece, such that a section of the arbor projects into the central bore on a first side of the workpiece, and wherein the work mounting has a counter-holder movable in the direction of the bore axis of the central bore for applying a contact pressure, acting in the direction of the bore axis, to the workpiece on a second side opposite the first side.
Abstract:
Tools and methods are provided for scarfing rotor blade segments. A rotor blade segment includes a pressure side and a suction side. A tool includes a first guide configured for mounting on one of the pressure side or the suction side, the first guide including a first curved rail and a second curved rail spaced from the first curved rail. The tool further includes a second guide movably coupled to the first guide at a scarf angle, the second guide including a guide rail extending between and movable along the first curved rail and the second curved rail. The tool further includes a cutting device movably coupled to the second guide, the cutting device movable along the guide rail and operable to remove material from the one of the pressure side or the suction side.
Abstract:
Machine tool systems and methods include methods of synchronizing cutting tools with a workpiece retainer. In some embodiments, the methods and systems provide at least two cutting tools that are synchronized to machine a common surface of a workpiece in a quick and efficient manner. A controller having a single line of code for controlling both cutting tools and the workpiece retainer may be used. The cutting tools may be synchronized such that they engage substantially opposite portions of the workpiece, thereby to reduce resulting forces in the workpiece that may tend to induce workpiece deflection and/or chatter. In other embodiments, a cutting tool is synchronized with a split workpiece holder that may be controlled to induce a compression, tension, or torsion pre-load in the workpiece.
Abstract:
A manufacturing process of a monobloc vaned disc including a cutout by abrasive water jet of a block of material in general form of a disc, carried out so as to remove material from the block at a level of inter-vane spaces to reveal vane preforms extending radially from a hub, the cutout by abrasive water jet including, for making each inter-vane space: a first triple-axis cutout of a piece passing through the thickness of the block, used such that the cutout piece escapes from the block automatically by gravity; followed by at least one enhancement cutout.
Abstract:
A plunge milling method includes: a) the area of material that is to be removed is enclosed by a plurality of milling paths, each milling path defining end positions of a milling head during the formation of plunge milling bores; b) to each milling path there is allocated a guide curve for the tool axis, each guide curve defining initial positions of the milling head during the formation of plunge milling bores; c) during the formation of plunge milling bores, the tool axis is oriented, as a function of a milling path and the respective guide curve, so that there is no danger of collision of the milling tool with a contour formed by plunge milling; d) for each milling path, bore axes for plunge milling bores are determined as a function of the respective guide curve, corresponding to a prespecified overlap of milling bores formed along the milling paths.
Abstract:
A method for finishing a part having excess material includes generating one or more surfaces on a model of the part to be machined, creating a machining tool path drive geometry, using the machine tool path drive geometry and one or more surfaces on the model to be machined to generate machining tool paths on the surfaces; and running tool paths on the part in a fixture.
Abstract:
In a method for cutting freeform surfaces, a workpiece is cut by a cutting tool such that a desired freeform surface may be achieved, the cutting tool for cutting purposes being moved along at least one defined cutting path relative to the workpiece. A cutting tool is used, the tool head of which has a greater radius than a tool shank of the cutting tool.
