The drawing press (10) according to the invention has for driving its ram (15) a directionally reversing gear mechanism (22, 54), for example a coupling gear mechanism, and at least one servomotor (23). The servomotor (23) passes through the reversal point (Ut) of the ram movement, which is predetermined by the kinematics of the coupling gear mechanism, for example the extended position of an eccentric drive. During the closing of the die (18), that is to say during a press stroke, the servomotor (23) is activated in such a way that it first passes through this reversal point (Ut), then stops, reverses and then passes through it once again, in order to open the die (18) again. Consequently, the braking to a standstill and re-acceleration of the servomotor for the upper ram (15) takes place while the actual drawing operation is still or already being performed, i.e. during the forming of the metal blank, which significantly reduces the cycle time.

A method for controlling the noise and vibration of machine tools in correspondence with environmental control standards includes determining a first level of noise and vibration generated by the machine tool during its operation, selecting a desired level of noise and vibration generated by said machine tool during its operation, and controlling the operation of said machine tool so that said machine tool operates at a second level of noise and vibration, wherein said second level of noise and vibration is below said desired level of noise and vibration. In a specific embodiment the stroke speed of the stroke section of a plate processing machine is controlled.

Apparatus and method for controlling equipment of driving a ram of a hydraulic press. Four proportional sheet valves PA, PB, TA and TB are connected with a hydraulic circuit, in which a hydraulic cylinder 2 for driving a ram 1, a hydraulic pump 3 and so on are set up, a so as to form a full-bridge hydraulic circuit. A compression proportional sheet valve PAp and a hydraulic pump 40 are connected as a hydraulic power source with high pressure and small flow rate parallel with the sheet valve PA being in the oil supply position side in the hydraulic circuit. An NC controller controls timing of turn-on of the proportional sheet valves PA, PB, TA and TB as well as change of the valves PA and Pap by PWM signal to pilot valves of the sheet valves PA, PB, TA and TB. The valves PA and TB are turned on in the down stroke of the ram 1, the valves PB and TA are turned on in the up stroke of the ram 1, and the valve Pap is turned on in the compression stroke.
