PURE CRYSTALS OF AMMONIUM PERRHENATE ARE OBTAINED DIRECTLY FROM THE THIOCYANATE SOLUTION BY CRYSTALLIZATION.

Process for preventing the extraction of technetium and/or rhenium, particularly during the extraction of uranium and/or plutonium by an organic solvent.This process permitting the extraction of a chemical element, such as uranium or plutonium present in an aqueous solution containing both said element, technetium and/or rhenium and zirconium and/or hafnium consists of contacting the aqueous solution with an organic solvent able to extract said element, wherein for preventing the extraction of the technetium and/or rhenium with said element, to the aqueous solution is added a zirconium and/or hafnium complexing agent in a quantity adequate for complexing all the zirconium and/or hafnium, said agent being soluble in the aqueous solution.

In a process is disclosed for recovering rhenium from tungsten and rhenium bearing material by oxidizing and fusing the starting material, solubilizing the tungsten and rhenium values, passing the resulting solution through a strongly basic anion exchange resin to retain the rhenium, removing the rhenium from the resin with an organic stripping liquid of tributylphosphate and hydrochloric acid, washing the remaining rhenium off the resin with water, combining the water and organic to form a two phase system in which the organic phase contains the major portion of the rhenium, and contacting with aqueous ammonia to strip values.

A polymeric material comprising a solid dispersion of a porous three-dimensional polymer with a pore diameter of 0.002 to 10 .mu.m and a permeability coefficient of from 2.times.10.sup.-7 to 2.times.10.sup.31 2 cm.multidot.sec.sup.-1. This material is produced by reacting formaldehyde with at least one monomer capable of forming, with formaldehyde, a polymer of a three-dimensional structure. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in an aqueous medium at a pH of from 0.1 to 4, while maintaining the polymer concentration within the range of from 20 to 65% by mass. Thereafter the solution with the polymer is maintained for a period sufficient to form a porous polymer in the form a solid dispersion.

A method for enhancing radionuclide activity of a daughter radionuclide-containing eluate obtained from a mixture of mother/daughter radionuclides is disclosed. This method comprises i) contacting separation particles with an aqueous solution containing a mixture of mother and daughter radionuclides wherein daughter radionuclides bind to separation particles and mother radionuclides does not. That contact is maintained ii) for a time for unbound daughter radionuclide to bind to the separation particles. Unbound mother radionuclide is iii) separated from the daughter radionuclide-bound separation particles using a washing solution. Steps i) and ii) are repeated at least once iv). The bound daughter radionuclide is stripped v) from the separation particles using a volume of stripping solution less than that used if only steps i), ii), iii) and v) were used for each of the recited at least two separations to form an aqueous eluate having enhanced daughter radionuclide activity.
