A polyurethane dispersion and a method of making are provided. The polyurethane dispersion is stable in a mixture of alcohol and water. The dispersion comprises the reaction product of (a) an isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer comprising the reaction product of (i) at least one oligomeric polyactive hydrogen compound insoluble in said alcohol, wherein said polyactive hydrogen compound is an alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl structure optionally substituted by N, O, and S; (ii) at least one polyisocyanate, and (iii) at least one polyactive hydrogen compound soluble in said mixture of alcohol and water; (b) a polyfunctional chain extender; and (c) a monofunctional chain terminator; wherein the equivalent ratio of difunctional chain extender to prepolymer isocyanate is 0.60 to 1.20.

The present invention relates to a reaction mixture in emulsion form, suitable for conversion into polyurethanes, comprising a first phase and a second phase in the emulsion and further comprising the following components: A) polyols; B) blowing agent; C) surfactants; and D) isocyanates, wherein the isocyanate-reactive compounds A) are present in the first phase of the emulsion and the blowing agent B) is present in the second phase. This invention relates to a method of producing particulate polymers. This production method is characterized in that a mixture of an isocyanate compound containing two or more isocyanato groups per molecule and a surfactant containing two or more hydroxyl groups per molecule is emulsified and allowed to cure in a dispersing medium which does not dissolve the isocyanate compound without use of a protective colloid. According to the production method of the invention, there occurs no aggregation of polymer particles during and after the curing reaction.
