These include polymeric, random or block urethane, and/or urea, and/or ester compositions containing the residue of at least one R.sub.f -neopentyl glycol containing two perfluoroalkyl hetero groups. These polymeric compositions provide improved thermal stability and useful low surface energy oil and water repellent coatings, and soil-release properties for textiles, glass, paper, leather and other materials.
Abstract:
Perfluoroalkylthio glycols and esters thereof can be prepared by the free-radical catalyzed addition of a perfluoroalkylthiol to an acetylenic alcohol or ester thereof. The compounds obtained are useful intermediates for the synthesis of fluorochemicals with low free surface energies having oil and water repellent properties. In one embodiment, a perfluoroalkylthio glycol can be reacted with a diisocyanate to obtain a polyurethane containing perfluoroalkylthio groups, which polyurethanes are useful as coatings to provide oil and water repellance to textiles and as additives to plastics to provide mold-release and other desirable properties.
Abstract:
Modified polyurethanes containing perfluoroaliphatic groups which are obtained by reacting oligo(poly)urethanes containing free hydroxyl or isocyanate groups and perfluoroaliphatic groups with di/polyfunctional polysiloxanes at elevated temperatures with conversion of all the reactive groups of the urethane are used for the oil- and water-repellent finishing of fiber materials, conferring on these materials thus treated not only laundering- and drycleaning-stable effects but also in particular a very soft, full hand of very good surface smoothness, these excellent hand effects being further optimized by the addition of a polyethylene dispersion and/or of further customary textile assistants, in particular water-repellent fluorocarbon compounds.
Abstract:
This invention relates to polymeric compositions derived by the polycondensation of heteroatom containing perfluoroalkyl terminated neopentyl glycols, and diamino, dihydroxy, or dimercapto-polysiloxanes and optionally other diols, dimercaptans or diamines with organic diisocyanates; and blends of polycondensation polymers with oxime-blocked organic polyisocyanates. These compositions and blends are useful as coatings on glass, wood, paper, leather and especially textiles.
