Polyurethane foams are made and attached to a substrate having an open cavity, but reacting a polyisocyanate component and a polyol component in the presence of a blowing agent. The polyisocyanate component includes at least one isocyanate-terminated, oxazolidone-containing intermediate. This process allows for very fast curing, good quality, adherent foams to be produced on, for example, vehicle parts and assemblies, for acoustical or vibration dampening and for structural reinforcement.

Novel isocyanato-azetidinedione compounds are provided which have the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 can independently selected from hydrogen and hydrocarbyl or can be joined together and along with the carbon to which they are attached represent a cycloalkane residue having 4 to 6 ring carbon atoms, y is an integer from 1 to 7 and X is a hydrocarbon radical having a valency of y plus one.The monoisocyanate compounds are used as intermediates to provide further novel azetidinedione containing derivatives in the form of azetidinedione-isocyanurates (II) and azetidinedione-urethanes (III).All three classes of compounds can be employed as acid scavenging agents for stablizing various kinds of halogenated polymer systems. Notably, (I) and (III) form highly useful polyamide-polyureas and polyamide-polyurethanes respectively by reaction with organic polyamines.

A resin composition comprising oligomers having a molar ratio of isocyanurate to oxazolidinone greater than 1:1, wherein the weight average molecular weight of the oligomers is less than or equal to 3000, as measured by gel permeation chromatography. Such resin compositions may be combined with a hardener to form a curable composition. Also disclosed is a process for forming a resin composition, including: reacting diisocyanates to form isocyanurates; reacting isocyanate groups in the isocyanurates and unreacted diisocyanates with an epoxy precursor to form a resin composition comprising oligomers having: a molar ratio of isocyanurate to oxazolidinone greater than 1:1; wherein the weight average molecular weight of the oligomers is less than or equal to 3000, as measured by gel permeation chromatography. Such compositions may be useful in prepregs and laminates.

The invention relates to a process for the solventless production of elastic filaments based on segmented poly(urethane)s or poly(urethane urea)s having improved thermal properties and, hence, improved processing behavior, for example during the heat setting of fabrics containing the elastic fibers, by the use of a polyisocyanate containing isocyanurate groups in the reaction of long-chain, relatively high molecular weight polyhydroxyl compounds with organic diisocyanates and low molecular weight diols and, optionally, other auxiliaries and additives in the melt, direct spinning of the reaction mixture thus obtained and thermal aftertreatment of the elastic filaments obtained and also to the filaments obtainable by this process.

A process for producing a polymer foam including reacting components A to C in the presence of component D and optionally E or of an isocyanate-functional prepolymer of components A and B with component C in the presence of component D and optionally E. The polymer foam includes 35 to 75 wt % of at least one polyisocyanate component A, 5 to 50 wt % of at least one polyol component B, 1 to 10 wt % of water as component C, 0.01 to 3 wt % of at least one Lewis base component D, and optionally 0 to 5 wt % of at least one foam stabilizer component E. Component A is a condensation product including polyimide groups and obtained by condensing at least one polyisocyanate component with at least one polycarboxylic acid having at least 3 COOH groups per molecule or anhydride. The process is effected to release carbon dioxide.
