Abstract: The present invention relates to a one-step process for preparation of “in-situ” or “ex-situ” self-organized and electrically conducting polymer nanocomposites using thermally initiated polymerization of a halogenated 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene monomer or its derivatives. This approach does not require additional polymerization initiators or catalysts, produce gaseous products that are naturally removed without affecting the polymer matrix, and do not leave by-product contaminants. It is demonstrated that self-polymerization of halogenated 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene monomer is not affected by the presence of a solid-state phase in the form of nanoparticles and results in formation of 3,4-polyethylenedioxythiophene (PEDOT) nanocomposites.

Abstract: Conjugated copolymers are provided that can be processed in a variety of solvents and can be rendered solvent-resistant when needed. The copolymers can be solution cast from nonpolar, polar, and aqueous solvents. After casting a polymer layer, the polymer can be rendered solvent resistant, thereby providing for improved stability and multi-layer processing and in electrochromic devices where the polymer layer is in contact with a nonpolar or polar solvent or electrolyte. Methods of making the copolymers are also provided, as well as methods of solution casting the polymers from a variety of nonpolar organic, polar, and aqueous solvents. Electrochromic devices are demonstrated having electrode(s) containing these polymers, including a variety of supercapacitor devices capable of using organic, biological, and aqueous electrolytes. Some of these electrodes demonstrate superfast switching and large power densities, showing promise for applications in supercapacitor batteries.

Abstract: A solid electrolytic capacitor that comprises a capacitor element, a lead wire, an anode termination, and a cathode termination is provided. The capacitor element contains a sintered porous anode body, a dielectric that overlies the anode body, and a solid electrolyte that overlies the dielectric. Further, the lead wire is in electrical contact with the anode body and contains a first region that is located in proximity to a surface of the capacitor element. The lead wire contains a core that extends outwardly from the surface, and an oxide layer coats at least a portion of the core within the first region.

Abstract: This invention relates to triarylamine compounds and compositions including such compounds, that are useful in electronic applications. It also relates to electronic devices in which the active layer includes such a compound or composition. The triarylamine compound can be present as a hole transport material in a hole transport layer. The triarylamine compound can also be present in a photoactive layer in combination with an organometallic compound capable of electroluminescence having an emission maximum between 380 and 750 nm.

Abstract: A cross-conjugated polymer having a hole transporting property and a solubility suitable for forming a film by coating, a material including the polymer for electronic device and organic electroluminescence device, a solution including the polymer, and an organic electroluminescence device are described. The organic electroluminescence device contains a cathode, an anode, and at least one organic thin film layer disposed between the cathode and the anode and contains a light emitting layer. At least one of the at least one organic thin film layer is a hole injecting layer or a hole transporting layer, and at least one of the hole injecting layer and the hole transporting layer contains the cross-conjugated polymer having a structural unit (A) for forming a cross-conjugation system as a repeating unit and a substituent X containing at least one of an arylamine portion, a carbazole portion, and an indole portion as a side chain.
