The present invention is related to a polyurethane dispersant and a preparation method thereof. The polyurethane dispersant is terminated by a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound during synthesis. The nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound is prepared by subjecting anhydride and a compound containing a primary amine and a secondary amine or a hydroxyl or mercapto group to dehydration condensation. The condensed product is the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, containing a reactive hydrogen. The structural formula of the compound containing the primary amine and the secondary amine or hydroxyl or mercapto group is shown as follows: wherein n=1 to 5, and preferably 2 to 4, R1 and R2 are respectively alkyls containing 1 to 8 carbons, R1 and R2 are independent of each other or connected by a chemical bond to form one or more saturated or unsaturated 4-member to 8-member rings, and X represents N, O, or S.

A process for forming a composite film on a substrate comprises providing a suspension comprising an ionised polymer and functionalised carbon nanotubes in a solvent, at least partially immersing the substrate and a counterelectrode in the suspension, and applying a voltage between the substrate and the counterelectrode so as to form the composite film on the substrate. Electrical charges on the polymer and on the nanotubes have the same sign and the voltage is applied such that the charge on the substrate has the opposite sign to the charge on the polymer and the nanotubes.

Water based coatings have been developed comprising water containing dispersed liquid droplets of water immiscible, hydroxy functional organic material, which are emulsified in the water, the water having dispersed therein an amine salt constituted by a salt of a solubilizing acid with a polyamide having a plurality of terminal primary amine groups. About one of the primary amine groups in the polyamide is unsubstituted, and at least about 70% of the isocyanate-reactive amino hydrogen atoms in the polyamide other than in the unsubstituted primary amine group are reacted with one isocyanate group of an organic polyisocyanate, the remaining isocyanate groups of which are blocked by a volatile blocking agent. The blocked isocyanate groups are nonreactive at room temperature and the unblocked isocyanate groups are reactive with the hydroxy functionality of the organic hydroxy functional material at elevated temperature. These coatings can be applied by electrocoating or other more conventional application methods and are curable to hard, flexible, solvent resistant films suitable for use in primer and other coatings applications.
