A dimensionally stable floor covering comprises a tufted textile substrate and a reinforcement layer attached to the textile substrate. The reinforcement layer includes an adhesive backing compound and reinforcement fibers surrounded by the adhesive backing. The fibers may form a continuous layer on the back side of the floor covering or may be dispersed within the adhesive backing compound. The adhesive backing compound may be hot water-soluble to facilitate recycling of the floor covering. The floor covering may optionally include additional backing layers (including cushions) and may be used as a broadloom carpet, a carpet tile, or other modular floor covering products. Methods of manufacturing, installing, and recycling the present floor coverings are also provided.

The water repellency (JIS P8137) of at least one of both surfaces of the corrugated, water-resistant core sheet and the core sheet-side surface of the water-resistant linerboard in the recyclable water-resistant corrugated fiberboard sheet is at least R 6 and that the Cobb water-absorption (JIS P8140; contact time: 30 minutes) of the surface of the corrugated fiberboard sheet is not higher than 30 g/m2.

A high solids, enzyme conversion process for preparing an enzyme-converted starch is carried out by adding to a modified or unmodified starch, preferably a granular starch, water and an enzyme in an amount sufficient to produce a single phase powdered mixture without a visible free water phase. The enzyme is activated by heating while maintaining a substantially constant moisture content in the mixture. The enzyme converted starch is recovered as a syrup, a granular converted starch, or mixtures thereof, or as a powder obtained by drying the syrup.

The adhesive composition contains polyvinyl alcohol, solubilized fiber and, optionally, from about 0.1% to about 99% added starch by weight based on total solubilized fiber and added starch. When the adhesive is the carrier type or the carrier-no-carrier type, the fiber can be solubilized in situ during the process of preparing the carrier phase.

A high speed corrugating adhesive having a carrier phase comprised of starch, modified starch or dextrin and polyvinyl alcohol in an aqueous emulsion wherein a cold water soluble, partially hydrolyzed, polyvinyl alcohol is used as a starting material. The polyvinyl alcohol is further hydrolyzed in situ to a degree of hydrolysis of more than about 95% by heating it in the presence of water, caustic, and starch, modified starch or dextrin. The carrier phase is admixed with a boron containing compound and a suspension of water and starch to prepare the corrugating adhesive for use in a corrugating machine.
