摘要: Synthetic nylon fiber composite materials having embossed or molded surfaces that emulate shingles or roofing tiles are disclosed, for providing waterproof, high-strength, durable substitute for shingles or roofing tiles. In one embodiment, these materials can be relatively thin, and designed to rest on supporting sheets of plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), or nylon fiber composite board that have been nailed to rafters. In an alternate embodiment, these materials can be manufactured in sheets with sufficient thickness, stiffness, and strength to allow them to be nailed directly to rafters, thereby eliminating the need for a supporting layer of plywood or OSB. In a third embodiment, these materials can be molded or embossed to emulate Spanish tiles, or to provide enhanced drainage or other useful traits. For improved waterproofing, the lower edge of each segment can be provided with an overhang that will overlap the upper edge of an adjacent sheet on the next lower horizontal row, to provide overlapping material at each juncture between these composite segments. These materials also can be coated or embedded with chemicals that provide increased resistance to water, fire, and ultraviolet damage. They provide excellent thermal insulation, and can reduce heating and air conditioning costs. A preferred manufacturing process uses needle-punched fiber mats, and any combination of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6 fibers can be used.

摘要: An awning fabric for use with a backlit sign of the type having a light source disposed on one side of the awning fabric. The awning fabric includes a scrim and a translucent coating on at least one side of the scrim. The scrim is treated with an optical brightener. When the awning fabric is viewed by an observer from the side opposite the light source, the visibility of the scrim to the observer is minimized. The translucent coating may be plastisol. The optical brightener is preferably a fluorescent whitening agent comprising a stilbene derivative. Also disclosed is a method for producing an awning fabric. The method includes applying an optical brightener to a scrim and applying a translucent coating onto at least one side of the scrim. The method may further include applying an opaque coating onto the translucent coating. Thereafter, a solvent is selectively applied to the opaque coating thereby forming a selected pattern on the awning fabric.

摘要: This invention relates to a process for coating a substratum sheet material, such as woven fabrics, by first removing from the substratum material any moisture that does normally exist therein, and then coating the substratum material with a coating composition with no moisture, air or other impurities being trapped between the substratum and the coating. Novel products produced by this process comprise new compositions of sheet materials having improved weathering characteristics including stability against ultraviolet degradation for improved service in highly transparent or translucent coverings for roofs and solar devices.
