    Abstract: Sinusoidal shaped member units and support member units are parts that form pre-stressed assemblies having flexural properties. Sinusoidal shaped members are relaxed material members that have been elastically deformed. Support members maintain the elastically deformed state of the sinusoidal shaped members. The sinusoidal shaped members and support members are organized into pre-stressed curvilinear assemblies containing stored elastic potential energy that is equal to the work done by the forces that deformed their pre-stressed structure. The assemblies' sinusoidal shaped members and support members are adapted to use materials having exceptional mechanical properties and flexural strength. This includes nano-composites and/or shape memory alloys. The assemblies' pre-stressed state enhances its mechanical, electrical and structural performance. The size, number, density and possible geometric configurations of the sinusoidal shaped member units and support member units within an assembly/structure is vast. Products of this sinusoidal building system have mechanical and structural applications and can be manufactured and/or deployed.

    Abstract: A mast assembly (10), a method of deploying a mast (20), a slit locking clamp (50) for a mast and to a support assembly (14) for an extendible member (20) are provided. The mast assembly (10) comprises an extendible mast (20) configurable between a coiled form and an extended form. When extended the mast is resiliently biased in the form of an elongate tube having a slit along its length defined by longitudinal edges of the mast. When coiled the mast is opened out at the slit to a flattened cross section and wound about an axis extending transversely to the longitudinal extent of the mast. A slit locking clamp (50) clamps across the slit in the mast at a position along the length of the mast so as to stabilise one edge relative to the other.

    Abstract: The pneumatic support according to the invention has pneumatic bodies 61 to 63 which can be placed under pressure and which operationally keep a compression member 51 and a tension member 52 at a distance apart, resulting in a pneumatic support with high loadability but also, disadvantageously, with high operating deformation. The connection elements 57, 58 extending in a zigzag shape between the compression member 51 and the tension member 52 over the length of the support 50 are preferably diagonal struts formed as flexible tension members and reinforce the support 50 with respect to the pneumatic supports of the prior art in such a way that the deformation of said support in the case of an asymmetrical load, as is the case with a bridge over which vehicles travel, is for example still 10%.

    Abstract: A variable height telescoping tower includes a base section and a second lower most section nested within the base section and extendable from within the base section. The second lower most section includes a plurality of vertically spaced lock apertures disposed thereon. A lock member is attached to the base section, and includes an engaging portion movable between a disengaged position at which the engaging portion rests outside of the lock apertures and an engaged position at which the engaging portion is engaged within one of the lock apertures of the second lower most section.
