    Abstract: There are output pistons 18 for opening intake valves 11, an intake cam 19 coaxial with a crankshaft 7 to actuate an input piston 22, a hydraulic control valve 20, output passageways 25A, 25B connecting the output pistons 18 to the hydraulic control valve, and an input passageway 24 connecting an input hydraulic chamber 21 to the hydraulic control valve. The hydraulic control valve has one state, which enables pressure-transmission communication between the input passageway and the output passageway 25A at least during a period for one cycle of reciprocating motion of the input piston 22, and another state, which enables pressure-transmission communication between the input passageway and the output passageway 25B at least during the period for one cycle of reciprocating motion of the input piston 22. The hydraulic control valve assumes the states alternately in every rotation of the intake cam 19.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to marine craft which are capable of operating in the hydrofoil mode, many with extensible and retractable hydrofoil posts. Specific embodiments of large commercial hydrofoil craft are described, including those with structure which is the water during hydrofoil travel mode and which can be retracted to partly fit within recesses in the hull during other operating modes. Other craft, including those with hybrid electric drive, are disclosed having un-cooled reciprocating internal combustion engines. A number of arrangements for pistons and cylinders of unconventional configuration are described. These included are toroidal combustion or working chambers, some with fluid flow through the core of the toroid, pistons reciprocating between pairs of working chambers, tensile links between piston and crankshaft, energy absorbing piston-crank links, crankshafts supported on gas bearings. In some embodiments pistons mare rotate while reciprocating. High temperature exhaust emissions systems are described, including those containing filamentary material, as are procedures for reducing emissions during cold start by means of valves at reaction volume exit. Compound engines having the new engines as a reciprocating stage are described.

    Abstract: A 4-stroke engine incorporating a mono-shaft multi-valve operating system, the multi-valve operating system incorporating a first cam follower assembly that is associated with an intake valve, a second cam follower assembly that is associated with an exhaust valve, and a cam follower channel assembly that is integrated into a crank web of the engine, the cam follower channel assembly including a base circle channel, a cam channel, and a cross-over channel. The cam follower channel assembly is configured to commonly interact with the two cam follower assemblies to operate the intake valve at a first instance, and the exhaust valve at a second instance, with both instances occurring while the crank web completes two rotations. When either of the two cam follower assemblies engages with a cam channel of the cam follower channel assembly, the cam follower channel assembly is configured to provide a camming operation to operate the respective valve. When either of the two cam follower engages a base circle channel of the cam follower channel assembly, the cam follower channel assembly is configured to prevent operation of the respective valve.

    Abstract: A valve system for the overhead valve type four-cycle engine disposing the intake and exhaust valves substantially symmetrically to each other with respect to the cylinder center line, wherein the valve stems are so tilted in the cylinder head that the valve bodies are in juxtaposition close to the cylinder center line. Guide cams are disposed around the circumferential surface of the crank shaft, respectively return back to the same starting point while making two turns, and respectively have one projection in the course of the turn, for driving the intake and exhaust valves.
