摘要: A method of controlling the operation of an engine fuel system including at least one fuel injector, a high pressure fuel pump for delivering fuel to the injector and a pressure sensor arranged to provide an output signal indicative of the pressure of fuel delivered to the injector, comprises the steps of controlling the rate of flow of fuel delivered from the pump to the injector by means of a metering valve arrangement supplied with a control current, measuring the speed of the engine and monitoring the status of the pressure sensor so as to determine whether a fault condition has occurred within the sensor. In the event that a fault condition has occurred in the pressure sensor, the control current supplied to the metering valve arrangement is varied in response to the measured engine speed signal so as to maintain operation of the engine at a substantially constant, predetermined engine speed. The invention also relates a fuel system for implementing the control method.

摘要: A needle is forced to open an injection hole by reducing a pressure of fuel in an injection control chamber to thereby inject fuel stored in a fuel storage, while the needle is forced to close the injection hole by increasing the pressure of fuel in the injection control chamber to thereby terminate injection of fuel from the injection hole. In a valve-closing stroke of the needle to close the injection hole, fuel pressure is supplied from a common accumulator to the fuel storage and the injection control chamber in such a manner that the pressure to supply fuel to the fuel storage is lower than that to supply fuel to the injection control chamber. In this way, a force acting on the needle toward the injection hole side can be increased in the valve-closing stroke, to thereby accelerate a valve-closing speed of the needle.

摘要: A metering valve arrangement comprises a metering valve member which is angularly adjustable within a metering valve bore provided in a metering valve housing and an adjustment arrangement for adjusting the axial position of the metering valve member within the metering valve bore. The metering valve arrangement includes a first opening provided in the metering valve member which is registerable with a first outlet provided in the metering valve housing to control a first rate of flow of fluid through the first outlet depending on the angular position of the metering valve member within the bore, and a second opening provided in the metering valve member which is registerable with a second outlet provided in the metering valve housing to control a second rate of flow of fluid through the second outlet. The first and second outlets and the first and second openings are shaped and configured to ensure the first rate of flow of fluid maintains a substantially constant relationship to the second rate of flow of fluid for any axial position of the metering valve member within the metering valve bore. The metering valve arrangement is particularly suitable for use in an advance arrangement for adjusting the timing of fuel delivery by a pump, in which the first outlet of the metering valve arrangement communicates with a low pressure drain and a first rate of flow of fuel through the first outlet determines fuel pressure within a light load control chamber of the advance arrangement, and wherein the second outlet of the metering valve arrangement communicates with the pump and a second rate of flow of fuel through the second outlet determines the pressure of fuel delivered to the pump.
