    摘要: A fuel injector with direct needle control has a nozzle needle guided in a nozzle body, and an actuator and a hydraulic pressure boosting unit that has an actuator pressure boosting piston connected to the actuator and a nozzle needle pressure boosting piston connected to the nozzle needle. The actuator pressure boosting piston and the nozzle needle pressure boosting piston both act on a coupler chamber. The nozzle needle pressure boosting piston contains a cylindrical chamber in which a control piston is axially guided, whose coupler chamber pressure surface is exposed to the coupler chamber and whose differential pressure chamber pressure surface is exposed to an inner differential pressure chamber contained in the cylindrical chamber. At its end oriented away from the coupler chamber, the nozzle needle pressure boosting piston is associated with an outer differential pressure chamber that communicates with the inner differential pressure chamber via a hydraulic connection.

    摘要: Engineers have determined that the performance of fuel injectors, including those used in common rail fuel injection systems, can be increased, and undesirable emissions reduced, by controlling the mass flow rate of fuel injected into a combustion chamber during an injection event. While a number of fuel injectors have been developed that have limited rate shaping capabilities, the ability to produce some front end rate shapes has not been possible. In an effort to increase rate shaping capabilities, the present invention includes a valve assembly having at least one valve member that is movable between a plurality of positions to control fluid communication between a number of fluid inlets and outlets.

To interrupt the fuel injection, a communication of the pump work chamber (18) with a pressure chamber (32) is also controlled by the control valve device (30; 130), and the injection valve member (22) is urged in the closing direction at least indirectly by the pressure prevailing in the pressure chamber (32).

A second body is press fit attached to the first body and has a second conical valve seat with a second axis positioned in opposition to the first conical valve seat. An elongated valve member with a centerline has an upper conical valve surface and a lower conical valve surface trapped between the first conical valve seat and the second conical valve seat. A guide portion of the elongated valve member moves in a guide bore defined by one of the first body and the second body. The first axis, the second axis and the centerline are concentrically linked via the press fit attachment of the second body in the locating bore of the first body. The valve assembly is preferably utilized as a needle control valve assembly in a fuel injector.

    摘要: A hydraulically-actuated piston and barrel assembly includes a barrel defining an actuation fluid cavity and a piston bore, which includes an upper bore and a lower bore. A stepped piston is slidably received in the piston bore and moveable between a retracted position and an advanced position. The stepped top of the piston includes a first area that is separate from a second area. The first area and the upper bore define an upper cavity connected to the actuation fluid cavity through a relatively unrestricted flow area, when the piston is in its retracted position. The second area and the lower bore define a lower cavity connected to the actuation fluid cavity through a relatively restricted flow area when the piston is in its retracted position. The first area is exposed to fluid pressure in the upper cavity and the second area is exposed to fluid pressure in the lower cavity over a portion of the piston's movement from its retracted position toward its advanced position. One of the piston or the barrel, or both, further define a restricted passage that includes a restricted flow area connecting the actuation fluid cavity to the lower cavity. The disclosure also includes a description of a hydraulically-actuated fuel injector that incorporates the piston and barrel assembly described above.
