The mounting portion connects the first and second parts and has forward ends extending substantially symmetrically along a longitudinal axis of the clamp. The forward ends of the mounting portion are biased toward one another by the clamp. The first part of the attaching portion is an attaching collar for partially fitting around the circumference of the first tube adjacent the shoulder rearwardly of the transverse axis. The second part is disposed below the first part and is adapted to engage the second tube at locking points located substantially symmetrically on the periphery of the second tube, forwardly of a transverse axis of the clamp for locking together the first and second tubes. The releasing portion is adapted to manually force apart the mounting portion and transfer the contact between the second part and the second tube from the locking points located forwardly of the transverse axis to releasing leverage points located rearwardly of the transverse axis so that the clamp easily slides off the joint. The releasing portion provides a mechanical advantage to open the clamp and can include loop portions for great comfort.

The invention refers to a process and an arrangement to connect and seal tubes (2, 4) made of glass, metal or ceramic materials, that are joined to form flue-gas pipes. The sealing system according to the invention is distinguished by the fact that it can be used for exhaust gas pipes as well as for diminished cross-sections for chimneys, for example, since the sealing material is used in such a way that the overlapping pipes (2, 4) are connected in gas-tight manner even in the case of varying pressure conditions, and that the sealing material (8) is sufficiently resistant to acid, water and temperature to be used in the removal of hot, acid gases. In a preferred form of construction, the pipes (2, 4) are fixed together before applying the anorganic sealing material (8). The pipes are either fixed by punctually applied, quick-setting adhesive (6) or secured together by a pipe clamp (14) attached at the circumference of the pipes.

A pipe coupling comprises a flexible insertion socket for inserting thereinto the pipe ends of pipes, particularly those made of mineral materials, that are to be connected together. The insertion socket is in the form of a cylindrical body open at both ends. It has an outside diameter larger than the diameter of either pipe end to be connected by the coupling. There is a packing ring in the form of a resilient, extensible cylindrical member having a central portion and two end portions, the central portion extending over the outer wall of the cylindrical body and the end portions projecting beyond the open ends of the cylindrical body. The packing ring forms an outer casing for the insertion socket. During and after the pipe end is inserted into the coupling, the sealing rings on the end portions of the member forming the packing ring are forced away from their normal position and disposed between the insertion socket and a pipe end to form an inherently stable structural unit with the insertion socket like a sandwich. The insertion socket may be clamped between two sealing rings. An annular rib may also be provided along the inner periphery of the insertion socket between the open ends to serve as a pipe stop. The end portions of the packing ring may also include sealing lips extending in the direction opposite the direction of insertion of the pipe ends, such that when the pipe ends are inserted into the coupling, the sealing lips engage the outer wall of the pipe ends.
