The optical fiber has at least one light characteristics conversion portion. The fiber sensor also includes a light-receiving unit to receive the light guided by the optical fiber, and an identification unit having a unique shape on an outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber as compared with a round shape. The identification unit is formed to have a shape enabling at least one of an installation position and posture of the light characteristics conversion portion provided on the optical fiber to be identified.

    摘要: A method, apparatus and optical network for obtaining a signal from a sensor in a fiber optic cable at a downhole location is disclosed. A reference signal is propagated through the fiber optic cable. A beam of light is received from the fiber optic cable, wherein the beam of light includes the propagated reference signal and the signal from the sensor generated from an interaction of the sensor and the reference signal. The propagated reference signal is obtained from the received beam of light. The signal from the sensors is obtained by sampling the received beam of light using the obtained propagated reference signal.

    摘要: A system for measurement of environmental parameters, using an optomechanical cavity in the end of an optical fiber. A single unmodulated CW laser excites the cavity, which has one reflective element fixed within the end of the fiber and the facing reflector being the surface of a mechanical element, supported over the cavity at the end of the fiber so that it can vibrate at its natural resonance frequency. The length of the cavity “vibrates” at the same frequency as the mechanical element, so that the light reflected from the cavity is modulated at that same frequency, and can be readily measured. The resonant frequency of the mechanical element is responsive to the environmental parameter to be measured, either by direct influence on the vibration of the mechanical element, or by means of the element's temperature change as a result of exposure to the environmental parameter.

    摘要: A transmission and reception device for a fiber-optical sensor system functioning with two wavelengths is disclosed wherein light of a first wavelength and light of a second wavelength are supplied over in-coupling fibers of a fiber-optical brancher to a fiber path of the sensor system and wherein light returning over the fiber path is supplied over an out-coupling fiber of the brancher to an evaluation means. The brancher is designed such that the greatest part of the returning light is coupled out over the out-coupling fiber. Two advantageous embodiments of such a brancher are disclosed, the one being designed in the form of a non-frequency-selective, asymmetrical quad-gate brancher and the other being designed in the form of a frequency-selective, five-gate brancher.
