摘要: Apparatus and methods for improving optical signal collection in an integrated device are described. A microdisk can be formed in an integrated device and increase collection and/or concentration of radiation incident on the microdisk and re-radiated by the microdisk. An example integrated device that can include a microdisk may be used for analyte detection and/or analysis. Such an integrated device may include a plurality of pixels, each having a reaction chamber for receiving a sample to be analyzed, an optical microdisk, and an optical sensor configured to detect optical emission from the reaction chamber. The microdisk can comprise a dielectric material having a first index of refraction that is embedded in one or more surrounding materials having one or more different refractive index values.

摘要: The present invention relates to an optical fiber sensor for shape sensing, comprising an optical fiber having embedded therein a number of at least four fiber cores (1 to 6) arranged at a distance from a longitudinal center axis (0) of the optical fiber, the number of fiber cores (1 to 6) including a first subset of at least two fiber cores (1, 3, 5) and a second subset of at least two fiber cores (2, 4, 6), the fiber cores (2, 4, 6) of the second subset being arranged to provide a redundancy in a shape sensing measurement of the fiber sensor (12′). The fiber cores (1, 3, 5) of the first subset are distributed in azimuthal direction around the center axis (0) with respect to one another, and each fiber core (2) of the second subset is arranged in non-equidistantly fashion in azimuthal direction around the center axis (0) with respect to two neighboring fiber cores (1, 3) of the first subset.

摘要: A photonic integrated circuit and a method for its manufacture are provided. In an embodiment, an intermetal dielectric layer, for example, a silicon oxide layer, is contiguous between an upper metal layer and a lower metal layer on a substrate. One or more waveguides having top and bottom faces are formed in respective waveguide layers within the intermetal dielectric layer between the upper and lower metal layers. There is a distance of at least 600 nm from the upper metal layer to the top face of the uppermost of the several waveguides. There is a distance of at least 600 nm from the lower metal layer to the bottom face of the lowermost of the several waveguides. The waveguides are formed of silicon nitride for longer wavelengths and alumina for shorter wavelengths. These dimensions and materials are favorable for CMOS processing, among other things.

摘要: There is set forth herein an optoelectrical device, comprising: a substrate; an interposer dielectric stack formed on the substrate, the interposer dielectric stack including a base interposer dielectric stack, a photonics device dielectric stack, and a bond layer that integrally bonds the photonics device dielectric stack to the base interposer dielectric stack. There is set forth herein a method comprising building an interposer base structure on a first wafer having a first substrate, including fabricating a plurality of through vias in the first substrate and fabricating within an interposer base dielectric stack formed on the first substrate one or more metallization layers; and building a photonics structure on a second wafer having a second substrate, including fabricating one or more photonics devices within a photonics device dielectric stack formed on the second substrate.

摘要: A fluid properties sensing system includes an optical sensor which generates a sensor signal based on received laser light, a light source which transmits laser light through a transmitting fiber to a sensor head, a receiver that detects a portion of the laser light from a receiving fiber through an evanescent field of the transmitting fiber when the laser light radiates through a transmitting fiber wall of the transmitting fiber and interacts with a fluid medium at an interface of the sensor and the fluid medium, and a processor. The fibers are coupled at one end through the evanescent field to form the sensor head disposed in a flow field and to interact with the fluid medium. The processor identifies a change in the sensor signal based on a detected portion of the laser light resulting from an interaction of the sensor head with the fluid medium.
