Abstract:
The present invention relates to an imaging apparatus for infrared rays nonlinear molecular vibrational microscopy. The imaging apparatus comprises a pump beam source for generating an infrared pump beam; a probe beam source for generating a probe beam; a beam combiner which synchronizes temporally and overlaps spatially the pump beam and probe beam on the same axis; a scanner for two-dimensionally scanning the combined pump beam and probe beam; a first optical focusing system for focusing the scanned pump beam and probe beam on a local point of the sample; a first collecting optical system for collecting the beam of which phase is shifted by interaction with the sample and forming a parallel beam; a first dichroic beam splitter for removing the infrared pump beam out of the parallel beam and splitting the probe beam of which phase is shifted; a reference interferometer for splitting a part of the probe beam out of the beams scanned by the scanner and generating a reference probel beam; an interferometric beam combiner for combining the probe beam having the shifted phase and the reference probe beam; a photodetector for detecting an intensity of a molecular vibrational beam signal from the combined probe beam; and a data analyzer for acquiring the detected signals and extracting a spectrospcopic information corresponding to the strength of molecular vibrational coherence of the sample.
Abstract:
In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention, the state of the thermal maturity of organic matter extracted from a sedimentary rock sample is determined by using a microscope in combination with a color video camera to provide an image of the organic matter in transmitted and filtered light, using the output of the camera to compute RGB and HSB values for a selected area of the image on a per-pixel basis, and plotting values integrated over the selected area in the form of a thermal maturation pathway from which a likelihood that oil has been generated in the rock can be determined.
Abstract:
A stain discriminating apparatus in which light rays having at least light component having a wavelength in a predetermined range are projected to a cell sample to discriminate the staining method by which the cell sample has been stained on the basis of the light intensity of the light component transmitted through the sample and having the wavelength (530 nm) in the predetermined range. An automatic cell sample classifying apparatus in which a plurality of cell sample slides are sequentially fed to the stain discriminating apparatus is used to determine the staining method by which the cell samples have been stained, respectively. One of the examination/classification programs previously stored in a memory is read out according to the staining method as discriminated and the cell samples are processed in accordance with the program as read out.

Abstract:
A device for analysing a specimen by fluorescence includes a confocal microscope, illumination means capable of emitting a light beam that converges, by means of an objective, on a focal spot, means for successively positioning the focal spot at various points on the specimen during analysis. The confocal microscope includes an objective mounted on a movable rapid-scan carriage driven in a reciprocating linear movement along a traverse direction by a rotating motor by means of a device of the connecting rod type. The specimen is placed on a movable support driven in a longitudinal movement and is able to move along the axis of the objective of the microscope in order to position the specimen relative to the focal spot. The excitation light spectrum is spread over the surface of the specimen in such a way that the excitation light reflected by the specimen and corresponding to the wavelengths close to fluorescence converge on points that are sufficiently distant from a diaphragm positioned in front of a device for measuring the fluorescence.
Abstract:
An apparatus to evaluate objectively the concentration and motility of particles suspended in a sample of liquid, and particularly to an apparatus to solve objectively the problem of evaluating these important characteristics in a very simple manner and in a short time by exploiting the Doppler effect. The sample to be examined is subjected to one of the two sub-beams resulting from the suitable division of a coherent monochromatic light beam emitted by a polarized LASER, while the other sub-beam is considered as a reference light sub-beam. Because of the very little difference between the frequencies of the original and scattered light a beat is originated in the rejoined two sub-beams which is dependent on the characteristics of the examined sample. Electromechanical means are provided to position automatically and sequentially a set of test-pieces to be examined according to a program and a data processor is provided to process the output signal of the rejoined sub-beams, so that the desired evaluations are displayed on a monitor or printed as alpha-numerical results and/or graphic diagrams. All of the mechanical, electromechanical, optical and data processor members are enclosed within a single box-container as component members of the apparatus.

The present invention relates to a device for obtaining images of bacterial cultures in a dish. The proposed device includes a support for a culture dish to be analyzed surrounded by an annular light emitting source facing an image capturing device and a non-reflective surface which, in conjunction with a reflective surface arranged in the periphery of the support, form a preferably spherical-shaped contrast observation chamber, providing a glare- and reflection-free, uniform tangent illumination of the support.
