摘要: One embodiment of a disclosed cable protection device connected between the positive and negative wires of the cable that provides an efficient method of protection from overheating of the device due to changes in temperatures with minimal power dissipation. The cable protection device includes a temperature monitoring device that continuously senses the temperature of the cable and device to check for overheating. A controller connected to the temperature monitor sends out an alarm message and a control signal to either an actuator circuit or a crowbar function circuit. The actuator circuit can send out current pulses to the adapter indicating the adapter to lower its current limit, so that the device can still keep charging and is not over heated. The crowbar function circuit causes the adapter to turn off power to the cable in order to provide burning of the device or connector due to overheating.

摘要: An electrical power supply includes a power input interconnected with a power source that supplies input power having a voltage exceeding a predetermined voltage threshold, e.g. a low voltage threshold. A power conversion arrangement converts the input power to output power having a voltage at or below the voltage threshold, and the low voltage power is supplied to a power outlet. An over-voltage protection arrangement, in the form of a voltage sensing circuit, is operable to detect the voltage of output power from the power supply and to discontinue the supply of power to the power outlet in the event power supplied to the power outlet has a voltage that exceeds the low voltage threshold. The over-voltage protection circuit is incorporated in a circuit board adapted to be plugged into a primary circuit board of the power supply. The over-voltage protection circuit establishes a path through which power is communicated from the power conversion arrangement to the power outlet, and creates a short circuit condition when power supplied to the power outlet exceeds the low voltage threshold.

摘要: A soft heating element, utilizing electro conductive textile threads as a heating means having additional safety functions as TCO (thermal cut-off) and TSL (temperature self-limiting) devices. The thermal cut-off function is achieved through melting of the electro conductive threads at the temperatures above 120° C. and below 350° C., which results in termination of electrical continuity in the heating element. The temperature self-limiting capability is achieved through a heating thread electrical resistance increase during slow elevation in its temperature, which is below its melting point. Methods of electrical and mechanical connection between heating threads and metal conductors, utilizing winding of connections with flexible strands of fibers or wires, with optional subsequent placement of a rigid mechanical fastener over the winding. Method of providing electrical redundancy of heating circuits by stitching, laminating, weaving or knitting an electrically conductive thread across the multiple runs of the heating thread.

摘要: A soft heater utilizing metal fiber containing, carbon, metal or conductive ink coated threads, embroidered on, laminated between or woven into a nonconductive substrate to form electrical heating circuits. The heating element may be manufactured in a form of strip, sheet, sleeve or strand of threads for incorporation into plurality of articles. The soft heating element core may contain localized treatment such as positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material for temperature self-limiting control. The electrode conductors are attached to said heating element core which is connected in parallel or in series. The heating element core is shaped in a desired pattern. The whole assembly is sealed by at least one electrically insulated layer which envelopes the strips, sheets, sleeves, ropes or strands of threads.

摘要: A heating assembly, for use as an electric blanket or personal heating pad, includes a flexible heating panel and an electric circuit for heating the panel. An electrical heating element is mounted directly on the panel and includes inner and outer coaxial coil conductors separated by an electrically insulating layer and surrounded by an outer electrically insulating layer. A two-core flexible electric cable connects the heating element to the power supply, and to an electric control switch for controlling operation of the heating element, a fuse being located in the circuit to be actuated in the event of a short circuit occurring between the conductors of the heating element, due to breakdown of the inner insulating layer. The electric circuit also includes a device for controlling the temperature of the heating element. The heating element is the only component of the electric circuit which is mounted directly on the flexible heating panel, and is connected to the rest of the circuit, including the control device, by the two-core flexible electric cable.

摘要: A household electrical service (10) is protected against overheating by running a sensor line or wire (36 or 38), coextensively together with hot, neutral and ground lines or wires (12, 13, 14 or 31, 32, 33), from a power company hookup (50) to a main breaker switch (18), and from respective branch circuit breakers (19) throughout the branch circuits (21, 22). The sensor line or wire (36 or 38) may be a length of heat fusible or otherwise temperature variant material which has a load end connected to ground and a source end connected to a control circuit (51) which trips the breaker (18 or 19) when an overtemperature condition melts the wire. Protection is extended through to individual devices (43) by continuing the sensor wire through the device cord (42). For this purpose, a plug ground prong (46) and receptacle ground prong connection (45) provide isolated ground and sensor wire connections. In a modified installation, fiber optic paths (38') are used in place of conductive wires and LED circuits replace load end ground connection.
