Pixel signals from the image sensor are converted into evaluation signals that are correlative with spatial frequencies of the image, and are filtered through the band pass filter with the frequency band determined by the set values. The evaluation signals are integrated, and a peak value of integration values obtained at different focusing positions is determined to be an in-focus position.

Such order information can be superimposed as a menu on a displayed video signal at the time the video signal is reviewed prior to producing a photographic print.

The image input device is arranged to pick up an image of the original and output an image signal corresponding to the original, detect the state of the original relative to an image plane formed by picking up the image, by using the output image signal, and control an image pickup operation in accordance with the detected state of the original relative to the image plane.
