During a power-saving operation of a subscriber, at least part of the subscriber which contains the receive circuit remains turned on, and at least one special preamble code is provided, upon the reception of which a part of the subscriber turned off during the power-saving operation is turned on again.

    摘要: In a method and apparatus for detecting a wake packet among data bytes in a packet frame issued by a network device, the data bytes in the packet frame are initially compared with a sync byte to detect start of a synchronization stream of the wake packet. The number of consecutive sync matches of the data bytes in the packet frame with the sync byte is counted, and a partial match flag is set upon detection that the number of consecutive sync matches has reached a predetermined number of sync duplications of the sync byte to indicate that the synchronization stream has been detected in the packet frame. When the partial match flag is set, the data bytes that follow the synchronization stream in the packet frame are compared with address bytes of a destination address assigned to a sleeping node. The number of consecutive address byte matches of the data bytes in the packet frame with the address bytes of the destination address is counted, and a packet detected signal is provided to the sleeping node upon detection that the number of consecutive address byte matches has reached a pre-programmed number of address byte matches, the pre-programmed number of address byte matches being less than a total number of address bytes of a destination address stream of the wake packet.

    摘要: A configurable remote controller for remotely sensing the status(es) of one or more electrically-powered target systems and for altering the status(es) of the target systems in response. In one embodiment, the remote control device is coupled to a preexisting communication channel established between a command system and one or more target systems. A system administrator transmits control instructions over the pre-existing communication channel to the remote controller. The remote controller receives and processes the control instructions as well as senses for a change in the status of at least one of the target systems. If a change in status is detected, then the remote controller alters the status in accordance with the control instructions. The change can be a lowering of the voltage level in which disconnecting the one target system from the power source can be considered a form of altering the status.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for conserving power in terminal units that transmit and receive modulated data over a communications loop that is shared with voiceband telephone equipment are disclosed. The methods include monitoring the loop to detect a shut-down condition and reducing power consumption of certain of the electronic circuits in the terminal unit upon detection of a shut-down condition. The methods also include monitoring the loop with a monitoring circuit to detect a resume signal outside the voiceband frequency range on the loop and restoring power to the electronic circuits when the resume signal is detected. The apparatuses include a modulated data transmitting and receiving unit having a connector for coupling the unit to a communications loop, circuitry to transmit and receive a modulated data signal in a frequency range above voiceband, and circuitry to detect a resume signal in the frequency range above voiceband and then to initiate a power up sequence for the transmit and receive circuitry.

    摘要: Apparatus associated with a remote communication station responds to predetermined sequences of characters received over a communication channel by initializing or conditioning equipment located at the remote station. The predetermined sequences include a plurality of synchronization characters followed by a plurality of identification characters, the latter of which identify the nature of the initialization or conditioning to occur at the remote station. The apparatus "looks" bit by bit at received data to determine when a synchronization character is received. When such a character is detected, the apparatus "looks" at the succeeding characters on a character by character basis to ascertain whether the predetermined sequence of characters is received. For each character received, a programmable read only memory produces an output which is compared with reference signals produced by another programmable read only memory. If a mismatch occurs, the apparatus is reset to again "look" at the received data on a bit by bit basis. If matches occur for the remaining characters of the sequence, then the apparatus signals the remote station equipment to initialize or condition the equipment in accordance with the identification characters received.
