Titanium or vanadium zeolite catalysts are prepared by reacting a titanium or vanadium compound, a silicon source, a templating agent, a hydrocarbon, and a surfactant at a temperature and for a time sufficient to form a molecular sieve. The catalyst is useful in olefin epoxidation with hydrogen peroxide.

The present invention relates to zeolites X, most of the exchangeable sites of which are occupied by lithium and di- and/or trivalent cations, having an improved thermal stability and an improved crystallinity with respect to zeolites of the prior art with the same degree of exchange of lithium and of di- and/or trivalent cations. The zeolites of the present invention are particularly effective as adsorbents of the nitrogen present in various gas mixtures and are well suited to the noncryogenic separation of the gases of the air.

A process for preparing molecular sieves of type Y faujasite structure is described, as well as pre-shaped bodies of faujasite structure type Y molecular sieves. The process comprises preparing a precursor gel from a source of silica-alumina or a source of alumina and a source of silica with a template agent at a SiO2/Al2O3 greater than 7 and suitable for forming a type Y zeolite, drying the precursor gel and contacting the dried precursor gel with steam, optionally followed by caustic washing, without the formation of crystalline phases other than type Y zeolite being observed. Advantageously, the pre-shaped bodies prepared with the precursor gel of Y zeolite, when subjected to the process of the invention, will have their outer surface covered by type Y zeolite crystals. The molecular sieves so obtained may be employed as catalysts or adsorbents in various processes of the chemical or oil industry.

This invention relates to zeolitic molecular sieve compositions and hybrid zeolite-silica compositions characterized by novel morphology in which the zeolite is present as macroscopic aggregates of microcrystalline zeolite. The zeolitic compositions of this invention have outstanding capability to complex multivalent cations, especially calcium due to the high exchange kinetics of the microcrystalline zeolite component and yet have the ease of handling due to the macroscopic aggregate assemblage.

A fine low silica faujasite type zeolite of high purity, having a faujasite single phase as measured by X-ray diffractometry, wherein the SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio is from 1.9 to 2.1, the water adsorption in the form of Na-type is at least 35.0%, and the primary particle size is at least 0.05 &mgr;m and less than 1.0 &mgr;m. A process for producing the low silica faujasite type zeolite by mixing and gelling a solution containing an aluminate and a solution containing a silicate, followed by aging and crystallization, wherein after the gelling and/or at the initial stage of the aging, a solution having a set composition and preliminary aged at recited conditions is added in an amount of from 0.03 to 10% as Al2O3.

Hydrothermal synthesis of the natural, alkaline earth zeolites via the alteration of Y-zeolite is presented. Synthetic versions of the zeolites harmotome, heulandite, brewsterite and gmelinite are synthesized from Y-zeolite using alkaline earth cations containing solutions. The effect of the composition of the starting zeolite, the composition of the solution phase, the presence or absence of seeds and the experimental conditions are discussed.
