    摘要: A quick change jaw system for chucks is provided. The quick change jaw assembly includes a master jaw including a first pair of coplanar abutment surfaces defining a first aperture; a clamping device including a dovetail portion being disposed in the first aperture of the master jaw, wherein the dovetail portion rests above the first pair of coplanar top surfaces of master jaw; a top jaw formed with a groove longitudinally extending along a length of the top jaw, the groove being complementary to the dovetail portion and configured for engaging the dovetail portion, the top jaw including a second pair of coplanar abutment surfaces extending along opposite sides of the groove; and a cam for actuating the clamping device for urging the second pair of coplanar abutment surfaces of the top jaw into coengagement with the first pair of coplanar abutment surfaces of the master jaw.

    摘要: A manufacturing cell having a plurality of work stations, where at least one of the work station comprises a metalworking machine, and where at least one metalworking machine is provided with a modular tooling apparatus. The modular tooling apparatus consists of a base having one or more attachment surfaces, and one or more inserts that can be inserted semi-permanently to the attachment surfaces. The attachment surface is typically a pocket in the surface of the base. The insert has a workpiece support feature that can support and/or secure the workpiece into the proper position and orientation for machining. The base, pockets and inserts are configured to provide a characteristic location and orientation for the workpiece relative to the base, and to the metalworking machine. The modular tooling apparatus permits machining a family of workpiece members that are related but different in detail, by inserting an insert member from the family of inserts to properly position and orient the corresponding workpiece member, without needing to change, disconnect, or move the base tooling. The invention also provides a process for performing a plurality of metalworking operations on workpieces, employing the manufacturing cell described hereinabove.

    摘要: An apparatus for drilling lock wire holes in lock wire nuts includes a variable speed drill press mounted on a work bench and having a vertically movable drill quill supporting a rotating drill spindle on one end of which is mounted a drill chuck for holding and driving a drill bit for drilling a hole in the lock wire nuts. An N/C microprocessor is coupled to the drill press for controlling the vertical motion of the drill quill in a peck drill cycle. A nut holder, including a collet chuck having three jaw inserts is mounted in a chuck indexer for positioning the chuck in any of three 120.degree. angularly spaced positions about a central longitudinal axis through the chuck. A drill guide in each of said jaw inserts guides the drill bit at an angle against said faces of said nuts to drill lock wire holes through the nut lobes. The chuck indexer is mounted on an X-Y positioner, in turn mounted on the work bench, for positioning the drill guide in the jaw inserts to be drilled through precisely in alignment with the drill in the drill press. The jaw inserts are indexed one by one in the chuck in line with the drill bit and the N/C microprocessor controls the drill press to execute the peck drill cycle through the drill guide to drill a lock wire hole through the desired lobes of the lock wire nut.
