    摘要: Methods are provided for fabricating a write head with a self aligned wrap around shield and a self aligned flared region of a write pole. A flare point and a track width of a write pole may be fabricated using multiple processes. The multiple processes utilize several masking structures to define the track width and the flare point of the write pole. A mask structure is formed to cover a first portion of the write pole. An edge of the mask structure adjacent to an exposed second portion of the write pole defines a flare point of the write pole. Various structures of the write head, including shield gap layers, a wrap around shield and a flared region (e.g., the yoke) of the write pole may be fabricated from the flare point defined by the mask structure.

    摘要: A method is presented for fabricating a read head having a read head sensor and a hard bias/lead layer which includes depositing a strip of sensor material in a sensor material region, and depositing strips of fast-milling dielectric material in first and second fast-milling dielectric material regions adjacent to the sensor material region. A protective layer and a layer of masking material is deposited on the strip of sensor material and the strips of fast-milling dielectric material to provide masked areas and exposed areas. A shaping source, such as an ion milling source, is provided which shapes the exposed areas. Hard bias/lead material is then deposited on the regions of sensor material and fast-milling dielectric material to form first and second leads and a cap on each of these regions. The cap of hard bias/lead material and the masking material is then removed from each of these regions.

    摘要: The integrated lead suspension assembly comprises several improvements. An oversized terminating pad for the electrical traces and a smaller adjacent insulation layer on the flexure assembly enable laser solder ball bonding of the pads to the read/write terminal contacts on the slider without clamping operation. Consequently, the tip of the load beam can be made narrow for a structure that provides for head loading and unloading functions, which improves the dynamic performance of the suspension assembly. The flexure assembly is configured such that it requires no permanent bending in its forming process, and any permanent bending required is done to the load beam. The limiter that limits the travel of the flexure assembly is formed on the load beam and it is bent to the functional position only after attachment of the flexure assembly to the load beam. The limiter is configured and positioned at the leading edge side of the slider to optimize the unloading process and to minimize the possibility of disengagement of the limiter and the flexure assembly during high shock environment. Asymmetric backing branches are provided for the read and write traces in the flexure assembly located at the hinge area of the load beam, the widths of which are sized to optimize the dynamic signal performance of the read and write traces without impact on the vertical stiffness of the suspension. Low profile flanges at 30°–60° that bend from the plane of the load beam are provided along the edges of the load beam to optimize bending stiffness and flow induced vibration. Dimples are provided along the load beam to facilitate insertion of a plastic head separation tool.

    摘要: A tape head module assembly system is disclosed. A first and second module holder are placed in an initial alignment with module holder ends facing each other, the module ends each holding a tape head module. A tape wrap angle between the first and second module is set by first performing a fringe alignment and then lifting a rear end of the first and second module holder a prescribed amount. A horizontal adjuster produces a rotation for the first module holder so that gaps between the first and second modules are parallel. An alignment along a longitudinal axis for the second module holder is selected and the second module is translated laterally until the second tape head module held by the second module holder is aligned with the first tape head module held by the first module holder to provide reader-opposite-writer track-to-track registration. Then, the first and second tape head modules are joined together using a joining agent in the gap between the first and second tape head modules.

The head suspension includes a head suspension component and a compliant locating feature formed within the head suspension component. The compliant locating feature includes a plurality of spring beam tabs defined by an aperture and positioned to extend toward an opening. The compliant feature is preferably configured to receive a tapered cylindrical pin through the opening for precisely locating the head suspension component relative to a desired reference while the spring beam tabs are engaged by the tapered pin. The head suspension component may include two or more compliant locating features, and the head suspension may include two or more components that each include one or more compliant locating features.
