A guided end (7B) of a guide follower (7) secured to the respective drive rod engages the guide track, thus permitting the proper guiding and holding of the passive rods and the proper holding and guiding of the active rods due to the movable connection between the guided end (7B) of the guide follower (7) and the respective guide track (4, 4').

The clevis fixedly engages a hollow aluminum tube of the disposable laparoscopic surgical instrument and pivotally engages an end effector of the disposable laparoscopic surgical instrument. The clevis includes: a hollow first portion having a knurled outer surface having a diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the aluminum tube, for fitting closely within the aluminum tube and for fixedly engaging the aluminum tube when the aluminum tube is crimped thereover; a second portion having a base section with a bore corresponding to the inner diameter of the hollow first portion, and a pair of parallel, spaced apart, opposed arm members integrally joined to the base portion at respective first ends of the opposed arm members and extending away from the hollow first portion; and a pivot rod which engages the opposed arms in a substantially transverse manner. The pair of arms preferably each are undercut with a groove on their outer surfaces to permit shrink wrap to be applied to the aluminum tube and clevis and to terminate in the grooves.
