摘要: A brazing product, e.g. a brazing sheet product, having an aluminium layer made of an aluminium alloy comprising silicon in an amount in the range of 2 to 18 weight %, and a layer comprising nickel on the outer surface of the aluminium layer such that taken together the aluminium layer and all layers exterior thereto form the filler metal for a brazing operation. The filler metal has a composition containing at least one element: (i) with a smaller exchange current density for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (“HER”) than nickel and/or (ii) such that the electro-chemical potential difference between particles of Ni-aluminide(s) of the filler and the aluminium alloy matrix of the filler is reduced. The filler metal's mol-ratio of Ni to such element(s) is in the range of 10:(0.3-30). The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a brazed assembly using the brazing product, and to a brazed assembly comprising at least one component made of the brazing product.

摘要: Arrangement for improving quality in fusion welding operations where protective gas is supplied to the welding point via a hose line. The arrangement comprises means (5, 6), such as a bypass line connected parallel to the solenoid valve (4) which is usually connected into the protective-gas hose (3), in order make a small flush-gas flow pass through the protective-gas hose (3) or a considerable part of its length, when the normal protective-gas flow is shut off. In this way, the quantity of impurities brought along by the protective-gas flow from the inside of the protective-gas hose (3) and supplied to the pool is reduced.

摘要: Welding of material such as a piping using ferrite system stainless steel, in which a back sealed gas used for conventional welding is switched from argon gas (or a hydrogen gas/argon gas mix) to an argon gas to which an oxidizing gas is doped at the time of forming a chromium oxide passivation film. Welding conditions are set at the temperature in which the inner surface of the piping does not melt at the time of forming the chromium oxide passivation film. The temperature of the welding piping is set uniformly between welding conditions in conventional welding and welding conditions at the time of forming the chromium oxide passivation film, and in order to replace gases used with conventional welding with gases used at the time of forming the chromium oxide passivation film. A cycle of one round or more is performed under the welding conditions for forming a chromium oxide passivation film, thereby, to form the chromium oxide passivation film on a weld in concurrence with welding.

摘要: An improved method for welding and passivation forms a chromium oxide passivated film over the welded portion during the welding process. In a shielding step, a backshield gas, preferably argon, is flowed around the welding site. In a welding step, an arc gas, preferably argon with approximately 10% hydrogen and less than 1 ppm moisture content, is flowed through the welding head and a welded joint is formed, for example by high speed tungsten-inert gas (TIG) orbital welding. In the passivation step, a process gas, preferably argon with approximately 30-100 ppm of oxygen and less than 1 ppm moisture content, and preferably less than 1 ppb moisture content, is flowed over the welded portion to form a chromium oxide passivated film on the welded portion. The process gas is passed through a gas purifier prior to being flowed over the welded portion to maintain its moisture level at less than 1 ppb. A welding and passivation apparatus for carrying out the improved method is also described having a welding system, such as a high speed tungsten-inert gas (TIG) orbital tube welding system or the like, and a gas supply system equipped to deliver the backshield gas, arc gas and process gas with the required compositions and with the proper timing during the welding and passivation process. An electronic timing unit controls the gas supply system to release the gases into the welding head at the proper time during the process.
