Abstract:
Abstract of DisclosureA molded display form (i.e. a mannequin) or other article is provided, made of an elastomeric material having a pigment and/or dye mixed therein, said form having a selected uniform color throughout the thickness of said material. Any desirable color may be selected, e.g., skin color (to approximate that of any race) grey, tan, red, blue, yellow, metallic colors such as gold and silver, and mixtures thereof. White and black molded articles are also provided herein. The processes of this invention are especially suitable for producing articles having a uniform color throughout without streaking. The forms of this invention are non-brittle, resist burning, and stand up well to high temperatures. If they are scraped or chipped, the uniform color of the material throughout will make the injury less noticeable. The material is also soft enough that seam lines may eliminated by buffing with synthetic pads, and because of the uniform color of the material, there is no need to paint over the buffed surface.
Abstract:
A mixture of a carrier and binder component and polymer powders is provided as a molding composition for sealing rotational molds or for reinforcing selected areas of rotationally molded parts. The carrier and binder component can be very low density polyethylene, petroleum jelly, hydrocarbon wax, hydrocarbon tackifier, or mixtures thereof, and the polymer powders are thermoplastics having a low melt index. The molding composition is applied to selected areas of the rotational mold, such as to the mating flanges of the mold halves to seal the parting line of the mold, or to areas within the mold where it is desired to have reinforced regions of greater wall thickness, such as ribs or bosses.
Abstract:
A rotomolded hydraulic reservoir includes a plastic container body defining a container cavity for receiving hydraulic fluid and forming a filter cavity in fluid communication with the container cavity. An insert, such as an aluminum bushing, is molded in the container body adjacent the filter cavity and a removable filter element positioned with the filter cavity and coupled to the insert.
Abstract:
A decorative cover for a post having a hollow body. The hollow body includes a continuous wall having a substantially uniform thickness, and a cavity having at least one undercut that would prevent a core from being pulled from the cavity. The decorative post can be manufactured by providing a mold, introducing a liquid thermosetting resin within the mold, rotating the mold about first and second axes, curing the liquid thermosetting resin as the mold is rotated to form a body with a substantially uniform wall thickness, and removing the cured liquid thermosetting resin from the mold.
Abstract:
A rotational molding oven for forming an object from a mold containing resin therein. The oven includes a cavity receiving the mold therein and a combustion chamber for providing heat inside of the cavity. A spool is rotatively positioned within the cavity, the sides of which spool substantially form the sides of the cavity, and a drive tube engages the mold and extends between first and second flanged disks of the spool. A first motor is positioned outside the cavity and rotates the spool and a second motor is positioned outside the cavity and rotates the mold within the spool. Heat in the cavity melts the resin within the mold and rotating the spool and mold by the first and second motors causes the melted resin to be evenly distributed throughout the mold. The drive tube may be selectively positioned at a peripheral edge or at a center of the spool. An exhaust duct extends from the cavity for releasing combusted gases from within the cavity and a damper controls the pressure within the cavity. Top mounted cooling fans inject cool air to and extract cool air from the inside of the cavity through a control damper. A spray nozzle is positioned under the injection fan and at the control damper for spraying a cooling mist into the cavity while cool air is circulating. The drive tube includes a drive shaft and gear box connected thereto, the gear box engages the mold and the drive shaft is connected to and rotated by the second motor. Rotational motion is provided to the mold by the second motor and a fan is provided cool air to the gear box.
Abstract:
According to the invention a body may be produced in plastic, in particular by means of rotational casting method, by using a suspension or paste with plastic particles, comprising at least partly a thermoplastic elastomer, in particular SEBS, SBS or TPU. Said invention presents the advantage of no danger to health.
Abstract:
A system and method for molding the shell of a medical device or other molded article is disclosed. The system includes a multi-axis rotational molding machine in which a mold is mounted. The mold has a cavity in the shape of the article to be molded. The mold seals to hold a vacuum. In operation, silicone or other molding material is inserted into the mold, vacuum is applied to the mold, the mold is rotated about at least two axes and a molding material coats the inside walls of the mold to form the shell or other desired article. A rotationally molded medical article is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A machine for casting radiation cured material with a mold set made of a clear, radiation cured material or other clear material, one or more radiation emitting devices preferably in the ultraviolet and visible range, a rotating mechanism to move the mold set from a horizontal or vertical load/unload position to vertical fill and cure position at the radiation devices, and one or more injection mechanisms attached to the mold set to fill the mold set and then seal at the part wall preventing cure of material in the line and resulting in a minimal gate mark. Alternatively the molds can be filled and then rotated before and during cure to create a hollow part.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a process for the rotational molding of polyurethane composite articles. The process is carried out by placing a polyurethane composite precursor composed of a hardener, a resin and a filler, wherein the hardener comprises one or more organic di- or polyisocyanates, and the resin comprises of one or more compounds containing at least two isocyanate-reactive groups, the filler is about 15% to about 50% by weight, or alternatively, about 15% to about 35% by weight, or, in a preferred embodiment, about 25% by weight, the % weight being based upon total weight of the mixture, and either the hardener or the filler optionally contains additives and/or catalysts in a rotational mold, and rotating said mold until at least the first cure time of the molded article is completed. The invention a also pertains to the articles produced by use of this method.
