Abstract: A locating ring has a metal body with a ring shape and having a perimeter surface facing radially outward, a center axis defined by the body, a mounting face, and a locating face spaced from and facing opposite the mounting face along the axis. The locating ring has a guard connected to the body and made of a material that is softer than the metal body. The guard is sized to be radially within the perimeter wall and to project axially beyond the locating face.

Abstract: A tool welding system is disclosed that includes a table that heats a tool. A multi-axis robot includes a welding head that is moved relative to the table in response to a command. A controller is in communication with the robot and generates the command in response to welding parameters. The weld parameters are based upon a difference between an initial tool shape and a desired tool shape. The difference between the initial tool shape and the desired tool shape corresponds to a desired weld shape. The desired weld shape is adjusted based upon initial tool shape variations, which includes thermal growth of the tool. The tool is welded to provide the desired weld shape to achieve a desired tool shape.

Abstract: The polyethylene caulking composition of the invention is a mixture of a carrier and binder component and polyethylene powder. The carrier and binder component is a liquid hydrocarbon oil. The polymer is finely subdivided polyethylene, preferably ultra high molecular weight, having a low melt index, no greater than 30. The composition is thixotropic with a consistency of toothpaste, typically having a stirred viscosity up to 30,000 centipoise at ambient temperature, which is suitable for use as a caulking composition. The caulking composition of the invention can be extruded at low pressures through a caulking gun or from a squeeze tube to plug vent holes or perforations in molded, hollow-form polyethylene parts, or applied as a caulk onto the flange surfaces of rotational molds.

Abstract: A mixture of a carrier and binder component and polymer powders is provided as a molding composition for sealing rotational molds or for reinforcing selected areas of rotationally molded parts. The carrier and binder component can be very low density polyethylene, petroleum jelly, hydrocarbon wax, hydrocarbon tackifier, or mixtures thereof, and the polymer powders are thermoplastics having a low melt index. The molding composition is applied to selected areas of the rotational mold, such as to the mating flanges of the mold halves to seal the parting line of the mold, or to areas within the mold where it is desired to have reinforced regions of greater wall thickness, such as ribs or bosses.

Abstract: An aqueous solution is provided for removing undesirable "heat discoloration" characteristics from a mold surface, the solution consisting essentially of about 17% to 21% by weight phosphoric acid and about 1% of non-ionic surfactant, the remaining portion being substantially water, with a small amount of colorant and/or fragrance being optionally added as desired. The method of use includes applying the solution to a mold surface of a mold half, the mold surface having undesirable "heat discoloration" characteristics thereon caused while heating the mold half for repair, and removing any residue after about 30 seconds or less thereafter. In particular, the undesirable "heat discoloration" characteristics normally occur after heating the mold half during the process of repairing a damaged mold surface or reworking a mold surface requiring an engineering change. The undesirable "heat discoloration" characteristics require removal to prevent blemishes from being formed on a plastic part during molding of the plastic part, or non-uniform release caused by sticking of the plastic molded part to the mold surface during molding. Optimally, the solution is manually brushed on so that it can be applied as desired to particular mold areas such as those including crevices, depressions and/or mold shutoff areas, and wiped off after several seconds.
