Abstract: In a multi-piece rim arrangement having a tapered base member and an associated tire bead seat band, the bead seat band is constructed to prevent tire inflation if the rim is improperly assembled. Abstract: An inflated tire mounted on a two-piece rim includes a lock member which normally blocks off access to the bolts fastening the two-piece rim together. The lock member may be removed to allow access to such bolts only upon removal of a sealing cap which allows the tire to deflate into a condition safe for the disassembly of such rim parts, to allow removal of the tire therefrom.

Abstract: A split wheel assembler/disassembler tool having a base plate, a plurality of outstanding elements for engaging and preventing the rotation of wheel fastening bolts and a tire compressor. During the assembly procedure, the outstanding elements prevent the fastening bolts from rotating while a tire mounted upon a wheel subassembly is compressed sufficiently to enable the fastening bolts to protrude through openings in a demountable flange utilized in conjunction with the wheel subassembly. Thereafter, nuts can be applied to the bolts and torqued with a desired force thereby securely positioning the demountable flange against the wheel subassembly. During disassembly, the tool aids in securely positioning the wheel fastening bolts while the nuts are removed.

Abstract: A rim for a pneumatic tire carcass has a pair of rim portions which are securable together to form such rim. One rim portion is integral with a wheel hub and includes a plurality of pockets or guide openings formed therein. The other rim portion includes guide members which correspond to these pockets and which are positionable therein to position the rim portions relative to each other. Apparatus for separating the rim portions with the tire carcass mounted on them is disclosed, as is apparatus for pulling the tire carcass off a rim portion after the other rim portion has been separated therefrom. In another embodiment, a pair of rim portions are assembled by positioning posts fixed on one rim portion into angled slots defined by the other rim portion, and rotating one rim portion relative to the other, the posts being drawn into the slots during such rotation to draw the rim portions together. In yet another embodiment, the tire carcass is supplied with an inner peripheral stiffener, which is seatable in a groove formed by a pair of fixed-together rimmed portions to center the tire carcass thereon. Also, another embodiment includes an annular plate and rim portions mounted in spaced relationship on either side thereof.

Abstract: Split rim halves which fit tightly within the central aperture of a tube-tire can be mounted with the tire by partially inserting the several rim halves within the central aperture and thereafter utilizing a plurality of ram pulling devices arranged circumferentially about the inner diameter of the rim halves, which devices are independently controlled with separate controls so that they can be operated to bring the several rim halves into proper registry within the central aperture of the tube-tire. The ram pulling devices, which also provide guides to insure the holes in the several rim halves are brought into registry, can be augmented through the use of guide dowels which assist in the pre-alignment of the several rim halves.

Abstract: A device and method for assisting a user in aircraft wheel assemblies is disclosed herein. The device enables a single user to readily connect two wheel sections in a split wheel assembly. The device is lightweight and reusable and preferably includes two bushings, two washers, a bolt, and a nut. After inserting the bolt through the wheel sections, a nut can be tightened, thereby creating a compressive force that compresses the bushings and the wheel sections together. While the wheel sections are compressed together, a plurality of tie bolts and tie nuts can be installed on the wheel sections to complete the wheel assembly.
