    摘要: A method of controlling an electric motor to optimize system efficiency of an electric motor operable in a pulsed mode and a continuous mode is disclosed herein. The method includes receiving a requested torque for the electric motor, calculating a pulsed system efficiency, calculating a continuous system efficiency, and operating the electric motor in the pulsed mode when the pulsed system efficiency is greater than the continuous system efficiency. The pulsed system efficiency is calculated for delivering the requested torque from the electric motor in a plurality of torque pulses greater than the requested torque. The continuous system efficiency is calculated for delivering the requested torque from the electric motor as a continuous torque. The system efficiency may be at least partially based on a battery efficiency and a motor efficiency.

    摘要: A speed control device for use in a battery-powered vehicle wherein a shunt field current in a compound electric motor for driving the vehicle having a reactor connected in series therewith can be selectively controlled by using a variable resistor included in the circuitry and operatively interconnected to an accelerator pedal so that the resistance to the shunt field current may be changed accordingly to the extent of stepping-down on the pedal by the operator. The speed control device also features that a part of the vehicle's body structure of a ferro-magnetic material is used in combination as a core of the reactor so as to form a complete magnetic circuit for the reactor.

The extended speed range is engageable by operation of a manual range control. The manual range control is rendered inoperative on startup so that the extended speed range is not immediately available. After a delay, of predetermined period, or after a delay of predetermined period during which the speed has been held at, or above, a determined limit, or after the vehicle has covered a predetermined distance, the manual range change is enabled.
