An electrically powered actuator mechanism for operating a vehicle parking brake including a reversible electrical motor having output gearing driving a sector gear. A wrapped spring clutch drivingly connects the sector gear to an intermediate operator cable wind up wheel. The intermediate cable is connected to the brake cable to set the brakes when the operator cable is wound up by energization of the motor in one direction, with a load sensor turning off the motor when a predetermined tension load is reached. Locking motor gearing holds the brake in the set condition. Reversal of the motor upwinds the cable to release the parking brake. A self adjusting feature is provided by a pretensioned clock spring creating a torsional bias on the wind up wheel tending to maintain a predetermined tension in the brake cable. A spring clutch is released by engagement of a release arm to allow the clock spring to adjust the wind up wheel. A cable operated manual release causes a release lever to engage the clutch spring release arm to allow the cable to release although the clock spring monitoring a minimum tension after release of the winding wheel.

An integrated throttle position validation sensor includes electrically independent throttle position and position validation components responsive to a single mechanical input applied to a protective sensor housing. By suitable mounting to the throttle control device, the mechanical input corresponds to accelerator pedal position. Within the sensor housing a potentiometer moves with the mechanical input whereby a variable voltage throttle position signal is generated. Also, within the housing a separate validation switch responsive to the mechanical input provides an independent representation of throttle control device position in the form of, for example, a bi-state validation signal. The sensor integrates previous separate throttle control position and position validation functions into a single environmentally secure housing which requires no calibration. The integrated sensor is more reliable and less costly than previously available separate throttle control and idle validation functions.

Disclosed herein is a brake system for a vehicle, wherein the kinetic energy of the vehicle is used to control the brake. An auxiliary brake wheel, and an intermediate high pressure oil cylinder connected with the brake wheel by a link and piston rod assembly, are fitted between a brake master cylinder in the hydraulic brake system and an oil passage which distributes the brake fluid to the joints of branch oil tubes of various brake wheels. The auxiliary brake wheel is fitted to the end of the vehicle transmission shaft; the auxiliary brake wheel uses an angular displacement of its braking disc, upon application of the brakes, to produce a rectilinear motion of the link and piston rod assembly, thereby further pressurizing the high pressure oil cylinder; and the high pressure oil cylinder is connected by fluid lines to each of the vehicle wheels, so that a strong, fast-acting, and efficient braking effect is obtained.
