摘要: A submerged, vertically-mounted membrane device, the device receiving a gas-sparged feed stock at a bottom feed inlet to provide airlift circulation of the feed stock through the device and separating the feed stock into filtrate and residual gas-containing retentate which passes from the top end of the device. The device comprises a structure of one or more monolith segments of porous material each monolith segment defining a plurality of passageways extending longitudinally from a bottom feed end face to a top retentate end face. A porous membrane is applied to the walls of the monolith segment passageways to provide a separating barrier. At least one filtrate conduit within the device carries filtrate from within the device toward a filtrate collection zone of the device, and the filtrate conduit provides a path of lower flow resistance than that of alternative flow paths through the porous material. A seal is provided to separate feed stock and retentate from the filtrate collection zone.

摘要: Sintered light expanded clay aggregates are described that are prepared by expanding and firing a clay-based material, and where the finished aggregates have a diameter of up to about 32 mm, for use as filtration medium for purifying water, wherein carbonates of calcium and/or magnesium are added to the clay as flux material prior to expansion and firing. Uses of the expanded clay aggregates for removing phosphorous by utilising die clay aggregates are also described, as well as a method for removing phosphorus by using the clay aggregates.

摘要: Anion exchange material surfaces are provided with zwitterionic and cationic groups, preferably by coating with a polymer formed from monomers including a zwitterionic monomer, a cationic monomer and, optionally, a termonomer providing stable binding at the substrate surface. The ion exchange materials may be used to scavenge heparin from blood by an ion exchange separation process. The zwitterionic group reduces the rate of fouling by biological materials such as proteins.

摘要: A modular modular control apparatus for a water treatment system which periodically undergoes a regeneration cycle including a backwash phase and a replenishment phase. The modular control apparatus has a modular design which includes interchangeable timer modules, a drive motor module, a drive mechanism, a valve cartridge unit, a brine valve module and interchangeable brine valve levers. The timer modules are rugged and relatively inexpensive but are not adjustable. Thus, to adjust the predetermined interval between regeneration cycles, a different timer module is installed. The drive mechanism includes two camming elements which in cooperation with an interchangeable lever and brine line sealing module draw a brine solution from the brine tank to replenish the treatment media and refill the brine tank with water to form a new brine solution. The use of interchangeable brine valve levers allows the quantity of brine solution used to replenish the treatment media to be easily adjusted. The valve cartridge includes a spool valve member, an inner piston and a guide assembly, which together form a unitary valve cartridge. The valve cartridge can be removed as a single unit which facilitates the installation, removal and repair of the cartridge. The control assembly also includes a user friendly housing. The front housing member is povotable whereby the valve cartridge and the control modules located in the interior of the housing are accessible from the front of the modular control apparatus. The valve body includes a brine valve module which is removable as a unit form the valve body. The sealing module is also removable as a unit from the brine valve module.

摘要: A process for removing pollutants from aqueous streams is disclosed. The process involves contacting the stream with a shaped ion exchange composite to remove ammonium and phosphate ions. The composite is a mixture of an anion exchange composition such as zirconia and a microporous cation exchange composition formed into a shaped article and optionally containing a binder such as hydrous zirconium oxide. The microporous cation exchangers are represented by the empirical formula. ApMxZr1-xSinGeyOm  (I) or ApMxTi1-xSinGeyOm  (II)
