Abstract: The invention relates to a water treatment line and a process for removing suspended solids, such as ferrous scale, and in particular also oils and greases, from cooling waters of metallurgical or steel processing. A sedimentation tank is included in which there is a lamellar pack filter with inclined sedimentation surfaces comprising a plurality of adjacent, essentially parallel and inclined tubular profiles, in particular with an angle of inclination with respect to the bottom of said tank of 50-65°. The application of the laminar packs in the tank which separate suspended solids, in particular ferrous scale, by sedimentation avoids the use of sand filters or the like.

Abstract: Provided are an extract, which is a fractionated component 1 of a water extract of a plant powder, wherein the fractionated component 1 is a fractionated component having a fractionation molecular weight of 12,000 or greater, wherein an ethanol-undissolved component of the fractionated component 1 exhibits a peak attributable to carboxylic acid in a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) measurement and exhibits a peak attributable to cellulose in a gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) measurement, and wherein an ethanol-dissolved component of the fractionated component 1 exhibits a peak attributable to carboxylic acid in the FT-IR measurement and exhibits a peak attributable to a plant protein in the GC-MS measurement, and a water-purifying agent containing the extract.

Abstract: A recirculating aquaculture system for producing aquatic species suitable for human consumption includes: a culture tank providing habitat for a selected aquatic species; a plurality of subsystems in communication with the culture tank and configured to recirculate and treat water within the system, the plurality of subsystems comprising: a solids control subsystem for removing particulates in the water, a recirculating pump subsystem for recirculating water within the system, an aeration/stripping subsystem for contacting air and water to strip carbon dioxide out of the water and into the air, a pH control subsystem to maintain the alkalinity of the water, an oxygenation subsystem for providing oxygen to the water, and an optional ozonation subsystem for providing ozone to the water; and wherein the water comprises iron cations at a concentration of at least about 0.1 ppm. Methods of maintaining the recirculating aquaculture system are also described.

The disclosed system can be packaged in small housing units suitable for insertion within mine tunnels or adits, but may also be expanded for large scale applications.

Abstract: A method of providing water suitable for irrigation use includes feeding pre-treated water to an electrodialysis apparatus, treating the pre-treated water in the electrodialysis apparatus by selectively removing either one or both of monovalent anionic and monovalent cationic species from the pre-treated water while retaining either one or both of multivalent anionic and multivalent cationic species to produce a treated water stream having a lower ratio of monovalent ions to multivalent ions than the pre-treated water, and directing the treated water into an irrigation water distribution system.
