摘要: An apparatus for processing a sample including fibers and trash, having a cylinder rotating in a first direction for receiving the sample. The cylinder has a surface with rigid pins. The pins engage and retain the fibers of the sample. A collection surface receives the trash that falls from the cylinder. A counter-flow of air moves in a separation region between the cylinder and the collection surface in a direction that is substantially perpendicular to and towards the underside of the cylinder. The counter-flow of air has at each position within the separation region an air-flow velocity that is sufficient for the counter-flow of air to blow the fibers that are not originally retained by the pins up toward the cylinder and thereby engaging the fibers with the cylinder, and yet insufficient to prevent gravity from pulling the trash downward through the counter-flow of air.

摘要: An apparatus for sorting fibers and separating them into fractions with desirable and undesirable properties comprises a housing provided with a first chamber; a device for introducing fibers to be sorted into the first chamber; a rotary element revolvably supported in the first chamber and provided with a mechanism for receiving the fibers and applying a fast rotary movement thereto; a multiplicity of material-receiving channels leading from the first chamber, a first one of which is provided with a first window adjacent to the rotary element for the reception of trash of relatively greater mass than the remaining material, a second one of which is provided with a second window for the reception of nep and undesirable fibers of intermediate mass and one of which is provided with a third window adjacent to the rotary element for the reception of desired fibers; the channels being in fluid communication with an air pressure source; wherein the fast rotary movement results in a centrifugal force, which in combination with the degree of air pressure applied in each of the material-receiving channels causes separation of trash of greater mass than the remaining material as well as the separation of nep and undesirable fibers from good quality fibers.

摘要: An apparatus for monitoring trash in a sample of trash particles and fibers includes scales for determining the weight of the sample which is transmitted to a computer. The sample is presented to a sensing volume and an optical sensor produces an output signal corresponding at least to the presence of the trash particle in the sensing volume. In one embodiment, the output signal is the waveform corresponding to light extinction caused by the presence of the particle in the sensing volume. In a second embodiment, image analysis of trash particles in a sensing volume provide output signals corresponding to the size, shape or composition of the particles. The computer receives the weight data and the output signal from the optical sensor and produces output data in the form of a count of at least a portion of the trash particles per unit weight of sample. The computer also outputs data in the form of or corresponding to the effective diameter, projected area and weight of the trash particles and count and weight of the fibers. In particular, the computer categorizes trash particles and outputs data for a particular category of particles.

摘要: For use with a cotton harvester, a chamber for receiving material from the harvester and a discharge conduit extending from the chamber. A blower for directing air through the conduit and inducing a secondary stream of air in the chamber that picks up the cotton bolls and moves them toward the conduit. A series of rotary-type cleaning blades traversing the chamber above the discharge means from the harvester and on which cotton bolls impinge as they move in the induced secondary stream of air. The blades have peripheral teeth that snag onto the bolls and draw them across an associated grate for removing solid material, twigs and other trash accumulated with the cotton.

摘要: The invention includes a method and apparatus for use in wool scouring operations and the treatment of the aqueous scouring liquids after and during use to extract recoverable lanolin or wool grease and heat from such liquids, and separate solid and extraneous matter from the liquids prior to discharge. The method and apparatus provides for removal of excess liquid from wool leaving a main scouring tank, passage of hot liquor and suspended solids from the wool and main scouring tank to a side tank, recycling of liquid from which solids have precipitated and passage of the solids to a heavy solids settling tank via a dump tank, removal of heavy solids precipitated in the settling tank and passage of the remaining liquid through a lanolin extractor; and recycling the remaining liquid or discharging all or part of such remaining liquid to waste via a heat exchanger which recovers heat from the discharge liquid for heating fresh water or liquid.
