    摘要: Emission gasses from an engine exhaust pipe are collected through an inlet of a dilution tunnel which is an elongated, hollow tube. The inlet is spaced from the exhaust pipe to also admit surrounding air. Ambient air and emissions are mixed in the tunnel by a screen in the tunnel. A probe in the tunnel diverts a portion of the mixture to gas analyzers. Prior to analysis the mixture may be condensed, filtered or otherwise processed. The analysis determines a CO/CO.sub.2 ratio which is used to determine the air/fuel ratio in the engine based on characteristics of the fuel. The air/fuel mixture of the engine is then adjusted to achieve desired performance.

    摘要: A device for sensing the emissions from an idling engine and automatically adjusting the engine so as to minimize pollutants in the exhaust. The device measures the composition of gas emitted and the engine speed at idle and compares the measured values to predetermined values. When differences occur between the measured and predetermined values, an actuator is signaled which adjusts the position of an air-regulating screw and an idling screw in the carburetor until the measured values are acceptable.

    摘要: The specification discloses a novel method for controlling production processes of a pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic nature and apparatus therefor. The method, and therefore the apparatus for performing said method, counteracts any process change by utilizing the error difference and the rate of change of the error difference between a feedback signal related to a current condition of the process and a desired value related to the desired condition of the process.The error difference and rate of change and then utilized to produce a correction signal which is adapted to remain unchanged as long as the process being controlled, and the desired value signal, both remain in static condition, but which also has a unique look ahead feature such that said correction signal attempts to become saturated as soon as a new desired value is supplied, or a process change occurs. The correction signal, if saturated, is brought out of saturation much faster by using both the rate of change of the actual error difference between said desired value and said feedback signals and the actual error difference between said signals in a manner which is much faster than if only the error difference was used. If said correction signal never does reach a saturation point, or if it is saturated, upon becoming unsaturated, the correction signal is then changed much faster than previously possible by using the rate of change of the error difference, rather than the error difference only.

    摘要: A fuel flow control system which, in response to the true mass of air entering the throttle body of an engine, provides a regulated flow of fuel to the throttle body, thereby delivering the optimum mass fuel-air ratio to the engine and maintaining idealized engine performance. The air flow rate drawn through the throttle body by the engine is monitored along with air temperature and pressure, and an electronic control circuit computes the true mass of air and the ideal fuel flow rate which will produce the optimum mass fuel-air ratio. The circuit generates a command signal to a novel fuel flow regulating assembly which adjusts the fuel flow in response to the command signal. The regulating assembly includes a control valve positionable in response to the command signal and a pressure differential mechanism movably responsive to the control valve position. A fuel flow metering valve in turn is positioned by the pressure differential mechanism. A fuel flowmeter is included to measure the actual fuel flow rate delivered to the throttle body and a feedback signal generated from the flowmeter to the control circuit further aids in accurately positioning the metering valve and thereby insures correct fuel delivery to the engine.

    摘要: A sonic nozzle apparatus in a carburetor flow testing machine comprising a measuring pipe passage connecting a carburetor to be tested and a pressure source such as a vacuum pump or the like, the measuring pipe passage being provided at an intermediate portion with a cutout section in which a tubular nozzle chamber can be selectively introduced in sealed relation. A plurality of such tubular nozzle chambers are mounted on a turntable to be selectively introduced into the cutout and each nozzle chamber contains a respective sonic nozzle therein. The nozzle chambers are disposed circumferentially at regular intervals and the turntable is intermittently turnable on a support shaft disposed on one side of the measuring pipe passage. One of the mutually opposite surfaces of an upstream and a downstream portion of the measuring pipe passage divided by the cutout is constituted as a piston which is movable by a pressure fluid to selectively effect clamping or release of the nozzle chamber when aligned in the cutout.

    摘要: Apparatus for monitoring and regulating carburetors and other gasoline consumption devices comprises a first conduit, means for feeding test liquid under pressure to the first conduit, a flowmeter, an auxiliary reservoir, a first valve in the first conduit for selectively directing the flow of liquid either directly from the source of liquid to the flowmeter or from the auxiliary reservoir to the flowmeter, and a float valve and a check valve for arresting the flow of liquid to the auxiliary reservoir when the auxiliary reservoir is full. A second conduit is provided, for air under pressure, with a pressure regulator in the second conduit, a second valve in the second conduit coupled to the first valve and so arranged that the second valve is open when the first valve is in the position in which the flow meter is fed from the auxiliary reservoir and is closed when the first valve is in a position that the flowmeter is fed directly from the source of fluid under pressure. The second conduit supplies air under pressure to the auxiliary reservoir, and a vertical graduated gauge is provided, whose lower part is in fluid communication with a carburetor to be tested and whose upper part is connected to the lower part of the auxiliary reservoir and to the pressure regulator. A third valve is provided between the upper end of the gauge and the pressure regulator whereby when the third valve is open, air under pressure forces liquid in the gauge toward the bottom of the gauge and when the third valve is closed, liquid under pressure can flow into the gauge. A calibrated overflow conduit for said gauge maintains the gauge under pressure.
