摘要: A device for validating the authenticity of a document uses changes in capacitance due to the presence of an electrically conductive security thread extending across the document. The device uses a drive arrangement for moving of a document such as a bank note, past a sensing arrangement which senses changes in capacitance due to movement of a security thread therepast. A frequency generator produces a high frequency time varying oscillator signal and provides this signal to an elongate oscillator electrode extending across the path of movement. A lead elongate measuring electrode is electrically conductive and positioned in front of the oscillator electrode and extends across said path and a trailing elongate measuring electrode is positioned behind the oscillator electrode and extends across the path. The signals from the measuring and the oscillator electrode are provided to a signal processing arrangement. The signal processing arrangement processes the signals relative to detect a phase shift between the signals caused by a conductive security thread passing by the electrodes. Sensing of the phase shift reduces sensitivity to variations caused by wobble of the bank note and changes in separation distance of the bank note from the sensor.

摘要: A security thread detector for verifying the authenticity of banknotes. In the preferred embodiment, the invention comprises a housing with a passage through which banknotes can be passed, wherein the housing also comprises a waveguide, a microwave oscillator for generating microwaves and two resonating slots on a wall of the waveguide, and a microwave detector. After a banknote is inserted through the passageway, the microwave diode produces an analog signal that is proportional to the microwave strength. The diode and the slots are arranged such that the radiated power from each slot is one hundred eighty degrees out-of-phase. If a banknote has no security thread, then the detector receives a balanced signal. If the banknote contains a security thread, the thread interferes with one of the radiating slots. This interference causes an imbalance condition and a corresponding signal is sent from the detector diode. The resulting signal is then sent to a microprocessor which activates an appropriate indicator. This indicator notifies the user of the presence or absence of a security thread; thus, the user can determine whether the banknote is counterfeit.

摘要: Metal fibers are mixed, at a predetermined mixing ratio, into a document for which forgery should be prevented. In reading a document, microwaves are applied to the document via a transmission antenna and reflected microwaves are received via a reception antenna. The document includes a portion in which the microwave reception level falls within a predetermined range and which portion is longer than a predetermined length, the document is regarded as a forgery preventive document and the copying operation is stopped. Further, a registration guide is so formed as to reflect microwaves at a certain reflectance. Influences of variations due to a temperature change and aging are compensated by measuring a reception level corresponding to the registration guide.
