    摘要: A travelling wave tube having a coupled cavity slow wave structure is provided with velocity tapering to slow the speed of travel of an applied radio frequency wave at the output end of the tube so that it is maintained substantially in step with the decreasing velocity of the electron beam. Such velocity tapering is achieved in the present invention by varying the resonant frequency of the coupling elements coupling adjacent cavities of the slow wave structure in accordance with a predetermined tapering law so that the resonant frequency of the coupling elements towards the output end of the tube approaches the resonant frequency of the cavities.

    摘要: A feed through assembly has a metal component passed through a ceramic insulator, and a multi-layered joint brazed to the ceramic insulator and the metal component to form the assembly. The multi-layered joint includes a first portion of braze filler material placed around the metal component and a hollow member of predetermined shape placed around the metal component. A flange is provided at a first end of the hollow member, wherein the flange rests on the first portion of braze filler material. The multi-layered joint has a second portion of braze filler material placed around the hollow member and seated onto the flange. A ceramic member of predetermined shape is placed around the hollow member which rests on the second portion of braze filler material. A third portion of braze filler material is placed around the metal component and seated onto a second end of the hollow member.

    摘要: A seal into a fused silica envelope comprises a refractory metal wire extending through an aperture in a fused silica neck leading into the envelope. A bead of glass having a coefficient of expansion intermediate those of the refractory metal and of the fused silica is formed around and wets the wire inlead. A hermetic seal is achieved by causing fused silica from the neck to shrink around the bead and be wetted by it, forming an annular sealing zone spaced out from the wire inlead. The wire may be of tungsten in which case the electrode and inlead may be of one piece without a joint.

    摘要: A baseplate is made up of a metal stamped eyelet for the production of glass to metal seals. The baseplate has bores for accommodating respective metallic leads and insulating glass beads. The bores have on their inner walls abutments arranged at the lower rim of the bore, which abutments can consist of integrally formed notches, protrusions or projections, or can be of an annular shape, thereby preventing sagging through of the normally cylindrical glass bead when melted during sealing of the glass onto the conductor and into the bore.
