摘要: The subject invention provides devices and methods for regulating the composition and pressure of one or more gaseous species and/or volatile chemicals present in a volume enclosed by a flexible, semi-rigid, or rigid packaging material. In one aspect, the subject invention provides a device designed to be inserted into an enclosed volume, the device comprising a predetermined concentration of one or more gaseous species and/or volatile chemicals contained in a capsule comprising packaging materials selected according to the desired composition, pressure or concentration, and rate of permeation of the content of the device. In another aspect, the subject invention provides a method for regulating the atmospheric condition within an enclosed volume, the method comprising inserting the device provided herein into the enclosed volume and allowing the content of the device to permeate into the enclosed volume over a desired period of time.

摘要: Apparatuses and methods for applying an antimicrobial agent to food products include methods and systems for limiting the escape of antimicrobial agent to the environment during antimicrobial treatment of the food product. In one embodiment, a series of cabinet panels moves in line with the passing food product and forms an enclosure around the food product by means of panels closing ahead of and behind the food product. In another embodiment, the direction and spray pattern of positively charged aerosolized antimicrobial particles is controlled by attracting the particles to preselected negatively charged regions within a treatment volume.

摘要: The system for cleaning fresh and freshly-cut produce is designed to clean produce as soon as practicable after the produce is cut. As the produce falls downwardly, a spray manifold directs a produce-washing liquid upwardly so that the produce-washing liquid directly sprays and impacts the falling produce. The impact of the produce-washing liquid causes the produce to tumble and the descent of the produce is slowed, and consequently the produce is thoroughly coated and cleaned by the produce-washing liquid. In an alternative embodiment, a suspending fluid (preferably air) is simultaneously directed to the falling produce to slow the descent of the produce and further ensure that the produce is thoroughly washed and directly sprayed by the produce-washing liquid.

摘要: The shelf life of fresh harvest produce is extended by coating the exterior surface of freshly harvested produce with a coating composition comprising an aqueous emulsion of polyvinylidene chloride copolymers containing from about 0.25 to 25% by weight of copolymer solids to water and between 0.001 and 20% plasticizer preferably a polyethylene oxide based additive such as Triton-X to weight of copolymer solids in the emulsion. The coating may also contain biocides as well to control bacteria and fungal growth on the post harvest produce during storage, shipping, distribution, and sale of the product. The coating composition is effective in extending the shelf life of produce.

摘要: Disclosed is a method for making low acrylamide food ingredients. When the treated food ingredient powders or flakes made by the present invention are used to make a low moisture, shelf stable food product, the level of acrylamide will be lower than if untreated food ingredient powders or flakes are used. The present invention is directed towards making dehydrated food ingredients from raw foods having relatively high levels of reducing sugars by making a dryable puree. Optionally an acrylamide reducing agent can be added to the puree before drum drying and grinding the dried puree into a powder.

摘要: Raisins that have been formed by field drying of grapes and that have been exposed to rain during the drying process that has caused solids, particularly sand, to become embedded in the surface folds of the raisins, are cleaned of such embedded solids by spraying with a mixture of pressurized air and water applied through an atomizing nozzle, which achieves both washing and drying of the raisins. The same process is applicable to other agricultural products with wrinkled skins, and produces unusually effective results.
